“National Park/Botanic Garden”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2014

Firstly the National Park - an area not to be missed. As well as the trees and birds there are sites where the activities of WW2 can be seen. The Botanic Gardens have great potential but clearly the Island does not have the finance to develop the potential of the tourist attractions which are already there. It looks rather "lost"

“Breathtaking views in a pristine wilderness”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2014

This review covers three distinctly seperate attractions within the National Park of Norfolk Island:

1) Captain Cook monument - this is simply a must-see location. You walk down a thin grassy outcrop to the cliff edge which is safely platformed with barriers to the most incredible 180 degree view across Cathredral Rock and back to Duncombe Bay. Breathtaking. However, if you are an intrepid walker, and decide to follow Bridle Track, please take extreme care here. There is NO safety fence, and one wrong step on this thin windy walk will be your last. Not for the kids please!

2) Mount Pitt & Mount Bates - you will drive to the summit of Mount Pitt and be able to soak up almost 360 degree views of the whole island. Simply amazing. You can then commence a 15 minute walk through rainforest to Mount Bates. The walk is at least 1 km despite the sign that says it is 500 metres. It includes some rather steep inclines so it is for the moderately able walkers - not the elderly or frail.

3) Botanical Garden walk - this is the least impressive walk. To be fair, the natural fauna of the island does not really include flowers - so visually it is all basically green undergrowth and spiky lush plants. The actual wooden walkways are in very good condition, full of meandering different walks that descend into the thick undergrowth but be very mindful of large, and somewhat unsettling masses of Golden Orb spider webs onstructing your path. If you are arachnophobic, I recommend you skip this visit, or walk behind someone more intrepid.

“Great Viewing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2014

This is newer and the lawns and facilities out here on the point look great, this was not here last time we visited and so found it interesting to walk down and look at. Nice laying back on the grass also and just chilling.

“Cool”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2014

The day we went through the botanical gardens was a bit of a hot day at Norfolk, but cool in the gardens. Very well kept, pathways are cleared and easy to get around. The panels gives you information about the name of the tree and interesting facts. Would be a lovely place to go probably spring, when the wildlife and flowers are there. We enjoyed our visit there. Also the toilets are spotless.
