“Stay somewhere else”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2012

The good:
- The restaurant does good breakfast and dinners
The bad:
- 6kms from The Settlement so a hire car is mandatory
- Pool was only open one day of the seven we visited
- Staff with very limited English
The downright ugly:
- Rooms were dirty
- Sheets did not cover the mattress
- Blanket was stained and too small for the bed
- Hole in the wall of my room
- Mould on the walls
- No tiles behind the toilet
- $285 a night is an absolute rip-off
Until the owner renovated this property completely do not stay there. Do not believe the photos on their website as the rooms are nothing like it.

“An OK place to stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2011

I stayed here for a business trip in early September 2011.
As previous posters have said, it is the old Casino in the process of being slowly slowly upgraded.
Staff tried hard but weren't always easy to find. Rooms (Block 7) were slightly tatty and slightly dirty. There was a dampness over everything which could easily have just been sea spray ... not sure.
View was magnificent. Pool looked good (I didn't try). The problem overall is the cost, at $285 per night it really isn't value for money.
The state of the resort is hard to reconcile against that sort of cost.
My recommendation would be to check the progress of the upgrade before booking.
The other difficulty is that depending on what is happening officially on Christmas Island, rooms anywhere else are hard to come by.
A more reasonable tariff while the upgrade is proceeding would be my recommendation to the owners.
BTW love the Christmas Islanders, good people and ready for a chat.

“Pleasant location, great food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2011

The Resort was built for a 5 star trade that collapsed. Seems the hotel was closed for a lengthy period and has recently been reopened as a casino-less resort. Sure the place has some flaws, but there is a team of wrokers trying to bring it back to it's previous standard. Meanwhile the rooms are very comfortable and well appointed. The restaurant serves really good food (breakfast and dinner) and there is a friendly karaoke (Harry's) bar that attracts a small crowd most nights.

Room Tip: Try to get into the renovated blocks of the hotel for nice rooms.

“Hasn't been touched since they closed it 12 years ago and looks like it.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2010

What an eye opener.. There is No restaurant (maybe in the works?), No TV, No internet even on your phone, Hygiene conditions questionable, as I got very sick and went to hospital. No transport. No pool. basically nothing since it closed down in 1992 after the great Suharto money laundering debacle.. The air conditioners are all wired dangerously as of June 2010 100+units, This has been reported. Other electrical works are poor or dangerous, so they have been tagged out but I’m sure much more to go. Admittedly they have done some work towards this so don’t touch anything. (My opinion as an electrical contractor) No cooking facilities in the rooms, only tiny fridges and a kettle. Stay there only if it’s your last option and you can speak Korean to communicate with the staff.

“Poor Location”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2008

Recently, Our family planned a trip to this place, the place look nice, loading dock, swimming pool, playground, and they said there were few private beaches?? Well, we been there 3 days, I discover throughout the place, there was no such things as a private beach. But the place look nice with free row boat, parking free boat launching.
The pool look old and the water is really bad, look like they have not clean it for a while. All the children in our family got home, they were all sick as the result of the dirty indoor pool.
The room cost as much as holiday inn price. But it is the WORST place I ever stay. The carpet is very bad, dirty, smell like they have not asked a professional to clean it for a while. The kitchen is dirty and also the broken cheap refrigerator. What type of bedding are they using. Look absolutely old and dirty. I don't even want to talk about the A.C unit, smell, the filter is dirty. We ended up opened a window to get some fresh air at night instead of that dirty filtered AC.
if you imagine that how many people stayed in this place, go out to the pool, pond and come back into the room with their wet feet or sleeper, with all the dirt and go into the carpet room, this is what caused the carpet smelled so bad.
I WOULD NEVER COME BACK TO THIS PLACE AGAIN AND RECOMMENDED PEOPLE NOT TO COME, YOU'LL BE SO DISAPPOINTED WITH THE DIRTY AMENITIES.
you will rather book a holiday inn, hotel, or any place that is the same price but much much better than this LUXURY type resort???
