“A niche interest.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

The gardens are lovely. Otherwise there might be limits to how much time one would like to spend here.

“Fascinating piece(s) of history”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

You don't need to be Jewish or speak Yiddish to enjoy and be enthralled by this place. It has a hush of a sacred place when you enter the beautiful building. The museum-like way information is presented is very accessible. Highly recommend a few hours here.

“The National Yiddish Book Center a global treasure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2012

The National Yiddish Book Center collects Yiddish literature from around the world. This linguistic group had numbered millions before World War II but dwindled to near extinction. The book center is a repository and research center cataloging, maintaining an historical account of. and celebrating the rich cultural contributions of Yiddish to world culture. Housed on the Hampshire College grounds the National Yiddish Book Center is host to cultural events at the college such as a recent invitation to an Israeli author to speak on the problems facing contemporary Israeli literature. In another example, I attended a celebration of Hampshire College James Baldwin Institute students for their creative works. Thus, it is a living cultural institution as well as world cultural repository of one of the world's great languages.

“Aaron Lansky's Labor of Love”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2012

I had stumbled upon Aaron Lansky's book, Outwitting History, some time ago and enjoyed reading it. My wife and adult daughter have also read the book, so we made a point of viisting this attraction when she was here from California. It is a wonderful place to spend a few hours and marvel at what an almost accidental hobby that Aaron started as a graduate student ahs become. It would help to read his book before you go.
