“Superb location for being a tourist on foot”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2012

Very nice clean and comfortable hotel in the literal heart of the capitol. The only inconvenience is parking. Best advice, park and walk everywhere.
A few nice perks are full size quality towels, big TVs, top flight linens and firm but very comfy mattresses.
Would absolutely stay here again.

After reading all the reviews for this hotel I was excited to book it for our 10 year Anniversary weekend in Annapolis. I am very sorry to say that this was a very big let down. First, we arrived at around 3pm on Friday afternnoon only to have to drive around State circle for 20 minutes until there was enough room for us to park and give our keys to the valet. When we arrived in our room (In the Robert Johnson House) it was so hot that we could barely breathe. I tried to open the window but it was nailed shut. We realized that the A/C was not working and that it was blowing only very hot air into the room. I will say that once we called the front desk they were prompt in sending maintenance to investigate and fix the problem. While waiting for them I looked in the vents and the filters and the vents themselves were disgustingly filthy and the filter looked as if it hadn't been cleaned or changed in a very long time. The fan vent in the bathroom (which didn't work) was even more disgusting and full of what looked like mold. There was mold in the shower as well. I do not know where the rooms that are pictured on the website are because our room was extremely small and stuffy. (we booked a queen room and it was less than half the size of a normal hotel room I would guess) The second day while I was in the shower I found 2 bugs crawling up the shower curtain, and then found another one on the floor later on. No need to elaborate on that...gross.
The only positive thing I can say is that the location was fantastic and that is clearly what we paid for, because the room itself was no where near worth what we paid.

Dear LaurieW:

Thank you for posting your feedback on TripAdvisor. Your experience is not typical of most of our guests and I apologize. I am appreciative that you took the time to write and let us know of these opportunities for improvement. I have shared your feedback with my Executive Housekeeper and Chief Engineer. We will discuss with our teams how we can pay better attention to our daily efforts and ensure that we are being diligent in less frequent but more in depth efforts of general cleaning and preventive maintenance.

We value the patronage of all our guests; should you ever have the need to visit Annapolis in the future I would be pleased to personally assist. Sincerely,

Enjoyed staying at the Calvert House during a wedding weekend trip. Room was nice. Bed was squeaky, yet comfy. Close proximity to Main Street and the fun of downtown. Parking was a little complicated, but the Valet wasn't too expensive. Would return again!

Our party of four stayed at the Governor Calvert House for two nights, and we all agreed there couldn't have been a better place to stay in Annapoplis. Centrally located right on State Circle, we seniors easily could walk to all the historic sights we wanted to see and pass charming shops and restaurants along the way. All the staff members we met were enthusiastically courteous, charming and very, very helpful. Though on the small side compared to a big modern hotel chains, our rooms had much more historic and decorative charm, with thick comfortable mattresses and big fluffy pillows, and they were clean, cozy and quiet. Great coffee and pastries woke us in the morning, and hot apple cider and fresh fruits were available all day and all night. The entrance and lobby have 3 soft and cushioned seating areas to make one feel at home ... we could "hang out" and chat or sit alone and read into the wee hours - So much nicer than a cold and cavernous hotel chain. The free shuttle was a big bonus for us since we wanted to dine at restaurants which were not in our immediate area. Just say "Yes" to Historic Inns of Annapolis!

Room Tip: At first I was given an interior room - very nice, but I find this type room very claustrophobic and...

Visited this property for a conference in September. Obviously it is old but is very clean and well maintained. It is very centrally located and walkable to Main Street shopping, the Naval Academy and the harbor. I would definitely stay there again.

This is a group of hotels. The one that we stayed in was the Robert Johnson. the other hotels in the groupmay offer more amenities
Pros: location,cleanliness
Cons:
the front desk is at another hotel which is inconvenient
This is the first hotel I have ever stayed at that charges you for a fridge to store medication in
There were zero amenities. One day there was coffee downstairs the next day there was not
The rooms were loud. We could hear the people walking above us constantly.

Dear Dsgandlcf:

Thank you for your feedback. I apologize that our website and perhaps verbal conversations with our reservations team was not more clear that we are one hotel consisting of three physically separate buildings and that we were inconsistent in getting coffee out in the lobby of the Robert Johnson. We will work to correct these issues. I appreciate your feedback on the medical need for refrigerators; we will revisit that structure.

I was glad to note that you enjoyed the location. We appreciate your patronage and hope to see you again.

We visited Historic Inns of Annapolis Md on Oct 13 2012 into the 14th. We stayed in the Maryland Inn. What a gorgeous place and convenient to the city. The staff and stay was superb. The only thing needed was the door had a gap on the bottom that let in too much lite from the hallway. Easy fix with a sweep added on the door. Room 318
