“Great happy hour oysters, artichokes, and pizzas”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2013

We have eaten only at the bar because that's where the happy hour special is. The roasted artichokes are exquisite--we have ordered them to go on several occasions. My wife likes raw oysters and these are excellent. The pizza crusts are delicious and my favorite pizzas in Annapolis, although they only have a few options. All in all a pleasant experience.

“It’s always harvest time at West?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2013

We really liked our first meal at West on a Friday night in May 2013. It's an upscale hotel restaurant, in a good way. Love the complementary valet parking. The redesigned ambiance is very open, modern, and enjoyable. Although, the booth tables were almost comically large. The gathering station in the middle of the dining room makes the staff accessible, but also induces a somewhat awkward display of lingering servers.

The staff was young, but sharp. The server knew the menu, and when I asked for a wine pairing, I received a quite informed and reasoned response. I was more impressed than I expected, as I often just get a deer-in-the-headlights response to that inquiry instead, even at places that should know better.

The menu choices were appealing, but seemed a little heavy, a bit off. Then we realized it was basically a fall “harvest” menu. Again, we were there in mid May, pretty much the opposite season. The server offered a strange explanation about the printer not being able to generate the right menus, rendering the choices fixed for the time being. Huh? Really dubious and disappointing. That said, the “harvest” fare was still tasty in May.

We enjoyed West and look forward to going back. It stacks up against a lot of humdrum Annapolis fare quite favorably. But it’s hard to recommend a place that apologetically and inexplicably serves a fall menu in May. I guess I’m curious to see what they’ll serve in October.

“Annapolis has a five star restaurant!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2013 via mobile

Chef Kevin Relf's passion for food and perfection are evident in his new venture, West Kitchen and Tavern. This new addition to the Annapolis restaurant scene is located in the Loews Hotel on West Street.

Several of us had dinner there recently on the recommendation of another local foodie. To write a short review of this wonderful restaurant is impossible but suffice it to say that the food

“Good food on West Street”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2013

Friday evening, with a good crowd, this restaurant is in the Loews Hotel. the service was prompt and friendly. We came because of the proximity to the Bay Theater where we have season tickets.

The menu was varied and there were enough non-meat entrees to satisfy our tastes. The ambiance was a little noisy, as a nearby bar table with 6 women were finishing off their week at the office with raucous laughter therapy.

The food was better than some other nearby restaurants on West Street, so we'll probably come again, if the Bay Theater reopens next year.

“A very fine meal -- try it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2013

I am distressed by the negative reviews, but they seem to be back when the place opened (or reopened, as the space used to hold a restaurant called "Breeze"). The newer reviews are more favorable. West is now is one of best places in Annapolis, which is saying a lot, considering the quality of the competition.

We dined there in the early evening on a Saturday. We were part of a group of 12 after a wedding, but had a reservation. The room was a bit noisy, but we were making most of the noise. A very nice and reasonably priced wine selection was followed by, in our case, very tasty duck sliders and a perfectly grilled salmon. The mixed greens were fresh and flavorful.

And we had no problem getting multiple checks with various combinations of people.
