“Excellent Hotel, Great Value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2010

My wife and I stayed here for our 1 year anniversary over the 4th of July holiday weekend. The service at the hotel was top notch. The rooms were clean and well kept. Great Location to downtown annapolis, we were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go. I will definitely stay here again

Just spent one night here for the 4th of July. Staff was courteous and attentive. Room was better than expected and looked like it had recently been remodeled. Even common areas appeared in nice condition. We were a little disappointed that our reservation did not include the continental breakfast. Generally, our experience has always been that if a facility offered a continental breakfast it was complimentary - not so here. We did enjoy a nice breakfast elsewhere by the dock downtown.

We would definitely stay here again!

We booked the trip through Priceline and got a great rate. The room was very clean and spacious. the website did not list a regrigerator in the room but was a welcome addition. We are not used to AC and the motor was a little loud. The bed was extremely comfortable, the staff friendly and helpful and parking was cheap. Great restaurants and sites within walking distance.

I would especially like to thank a women who "wore many hats" this particular weekend. Her name is Jacque and she not only checked us in on Friday upon arrival, but welcomed us each morning at breakfast. She was extremely helpful with restaurant suggestions, tour ideas and went as far as booking arrangements for us while working the breakfast shift. Beyond her duties, I would think. You should be very proud to have an employee like Jacque we were all amazed with her pleasant personality and helpfulness.

When we checked in, the desk person told us we had a rate increase after we booked on line. We did get that corrected. We were put right next to the elevator which was very noisy ALL night long. The shower had no water pressure and the never did correct it. The continential breakfast was small and over priced. I think the entire hotel needs remodeled. I have had better rooms at a Hampton.

The best thing about this hotel is its location and its cool Irish name. You can walk to restaurants, taverns, wine and coffee bars, the Naval Academy, the Maryland State House, shopping and the harbor. It also offers a free shuttle to the harbor, which is a good idea at night because there are some shady characters hanging around on West Street that might make the meek feel a bit threatened.

For the amount of money you will spend to stay at this hotel, consider staying at the Westin, the Lowes or the Marriott! The only kudos for service in the hotel go to the friendly bartender at John Barry's restaurant/bar.

When we arrived at the hotel, we were met by a young man to valet the car. He offered us a bell cart but did NOT offer to help unload our bags or to take them to our room. He didn't even help with the door when I had to push the bell cart, which I loaded, to the lobby. Since I had to schlep my own bags, I decided to retain my own tip! He lost out on an easy five bucks! The desk clerk wasn't much help either. We were the only customers there at the time and she didn't offer to call for assistance. Yes, we could have asked. I've worked in hospitality myself and what I expect from staff at hotels and restaurants is for them to anticipate guests' needs. I'll gladly pay more for this level of service. It's how I was trained. It's why they get paid.

The rooms need some serious work. The bathtub was stained, rusted, and very slippery. The wallpaper in the bathroom was peeling off the walls as well. The fixtures in the room are showing signs of wear and neglect as well. The TV is the old school CRT kind and the volume goes up when you try to get it to go down. I mean, come on! We're paying modern prices, give us modern amenities.

Our room had a balcony and we were able to be lulled to sleep (with ear plugs) by the Latino beat at the Mexican restaurant and bar kitty-corner from the hotel. The balcony also has its own outdoor heating. Too bad it's June and it doesn't need it. The air conditioner vents from our room and the one next door blow out onto the balcony and it's easily 110 degrees AT NIGHT with all the hot air blowing out there. Impossible to enjoy it.

Speaking of air conditioning, at least it worked. However, I've had quieter units in Motel 6es or Super 8's! Those ear plugs came in handy. Too bad the rack rate at this hotel was a whopping $199 in June!

Unless the O'Callghan Hotel is your last choice in Annapolis, you can do better. Consider a cheaper hotel near the highway, save loads of money, and park at the garage right across the street from the O'Callaghan for your excursions into downtown Annapolis. You might save money and stay in a nicer place!

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments and we are disappointed that you did not have a good stay with us. We are currently overhauling all of our airconditioning units and will take head of your comments about the balcony. We have also changed all the bed linen to include Duvets.
We hope you might consider staying with us again so we can ensure you have a better experience.

Our midshipman at the Naval Academy was graduating. I had to plan a party and reserve rooms for extended family--about 15 people. The staff was very accommodating and flexible when our plans changed. They helped us to have a nice party in their restaurant which was lovely. The food was very tasty and service was great. One server in the restaurant left the building to search our car for our graduating midshipman's cover at 6:00 in the morning when he found he could not find it. Front desk and sales staff were super-friendly. The room was beautiful, linens crisp and clean, lovely bathroom, and the housekeeping staff friendly and respectful. Will stay there the next visit to Annapolis!
