“neighborhood gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

What a great Saturday evening! The restaurant has such a unique set up for private tables, groups, bar, live music, roof top, very cool. The drink menu, small plates and meals were equally diverse. The wait staff was friendly and knowledgable and never rushed us. The table was like it ours for the evening. I'll be back.

“decent food, good location, horrible service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2013

As Annapolis residents and local food enthusiasts, we have been repeatedly disappointed by our experience here. We have been to Metropolitan four or five times and have enjoyed the food but had the same unfortunate service experience each time, with our brunch today being the worst. We sat at the bar and were basically ignored by the bartender, who seemed very sick. The bar was dirty with crumbs and dishes, and it took almost ten minutes for them to notice we were sitting there and offer to clean it. There were at least three other servers lingering around during our meal chatting who never once asked us if we needed anything, or offered any assistance when the bartender ignored us. The food service was slow and much of the food was cold when it came out, making it average at best. The food and restaurant have the potential to be great, but each time we have been the service has been horrible. The restaurant overall needs better management - the bartenders and waitstaff seem oblivious to the customers!

“Disappointed Second Chance”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 16, 2013

We heard from some folks that there was new menu and the food was much improved, so we decided to revisit Metropolitan. We sat at the rooftop, which is a terrific venue (except we really couldn't quite figure out the rationale for devoting so much valuable space to the two CA-themed sofa bed arrangement). Our server, Brooke, was fantastic - absolutely one of the best we have encountered in Annapolis. She even went next door to the sister restaurant Lemongrass to fetch ice cream for the young one in our group. Unfortunately, the food did not match the service. The mussels were warm, not steaming as they should be. The lamb burger was OK, but nothing spectacular (the best is at Butcher and Bee in Charleston, SC). The other food items were also not hot and just mediocre. A professional chef told me to always check out a restaurant bathroom first as a reflection of what one may expect out of the kitchen. The bathrooms were dirty on our first visit months ago and they looked the same this time. We hear tell management is trying to put Metropolitan back on track and we hope they will succeed as the location and layout are really great. I suggest management and staff pay a visit to Vin 909 and Luna Blu to witness first hand how a terrific restaurant operates.

“Great, creative food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2013

This restaurant is a great find for creative dishes made from fresh, local ingredients.

We showed up without a reservation on a Saturday night, so we had a minimum 30 minuted wait. This wasn't a problem because we went straight to the bar to try some of their unique cocktails. I had the General Lee which was very smooth and worth trying.

We ended up eating at the bar, which was just as good because we didn't have to wait the full time for our table. We ordered two burgers: the ahi tuna and the foodie (which happened to be a regular beef patty with a fried green tomato and bacon). Both were delicious, though rather small. The fries that came with the burgers were also very tasty.

Overall, I was very impressed with the quality and creativity of the food, and I would love to come back to try some of the main entree items. The prices were a little high, but well worth it.
