Beale Street opened their newest restaurant in Augusta abotu two years ago now, and I am very glad they did! It is on Water Street in the southern part of downtown and is one of the few dining options downtown at night or weekends (along with Lauria's On The River). It is located in a building they worked very hard to restore before it opened, and they did a good job. Tables are very widely spaced--we keep thinking they could get quite a few more seats in there. Prices are very, very reasonable and there are various barbecued selections of pork, beef and chicken. Many of them come without sauce on them; you can add their own barbecue sauce at the table. It's a meat-oriented place; I don't think there'd be all that much for a vegan to have here, but that's a BBQ place for you. Service is invariably friendly and efficient. The restaurant also has a bar and beer on tap. Prices are more than reasonable; very little of their menu is more than $12 with a lot under $10. Lately they have been offering more nightly specials that are more expensive ($15 or so, typically); these are often fancier items than the usual barbecue fare. Weekend nights do sometimes bring a wait for a table. This is the third location; I believe their other two are in Bath and South Portland. We are very glad they came to Augusta, too.
