My team mate and I got off work fairly late, After stopping at the hotel to change out of work clothes. We hit the net for a good restaurant in Augusta, after 10 mins of searching and reading reviews, The Gin Mill and RiverFront BBQ sounded perfect. We drove downtown and parked in front, I was on a cell phone and hung up as we walked in the door (8:00), We were directed upstairs opened the door to a very nice bar/bistro. approx 25 people were in the area, 4 tables were occupied ALL the others were dirty and vacant. The bar was very nice but full except for two seats on the end, We took them, as we set down we were told someone would be right with us. Within two minutes the wattress walked out the door. We were able to watch the Barmaid serve drinks to 6 other people and glance our way twice. When my phone hit 8:13 we quietly got up and left. As we descended the stairs we asked the girl cleaning up downstairs were we could find a restaurant open this late that could serve food. She responded WE CAN, I replied someplace not affliliated with the upstairs establishment as we were hungry and would like immediatly, She again stated NOT A PROBLEM, WE CAN HELP you. We decided to try again, She seated us booth in the front overlooking the street, Asked if we wanted drinks, My teamate ordered a screwdriver and I ordered a VO and 7 tall glasses. after 5 minutes another waittress approaches and asks again what we would like to drink, we again placed orders and she left without us being able to place our food order. we then watched the street and timed the staff with our cell phones. after 4 minutes we heard a loud shriek from the kitchen followed by a pan or something metal bouncing, this was followed by laughter and appaently the whole staff was included in something. At this point we looked at the drink prep area and observed nobody around, 4 minutes later we got proceeded to leave. At this point a manager? approached and asked it something was wrong, I responded with with place. He laughed, I explained about the upstairs sercvice (with 25 people in the area) and then the downstairs service with 1 table with 2 people in it. he held his hands out and said "Your drinks be ready in a minute" I wondered which minute as my teammate walked out the door. The manager? then followed us out the door yelling that he hoped we had a nice evening. I responded that the least I could do was write this up for others. at this point we noticed a Bistro across the street and down a bit. as we walked in, the sercie appeared excellent. we asked if the kitchen was open, They informed that it had just closed 3-4 minutes prior at 9:00 PM. We searched area by driving and using our GPS. We then gave up and went to MCDonalds, who greeted us at the door with smiles while they were sweeping the floor with two people cleaning up the customer area. We were able to obtain our food and had pleasant reading the local paper about replacing the state house copper roof over our big macs. Moral of the story, Stay away from this place if your hungry.
