“Overnight in Auburn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013

We stayed at the Residence Inn for one night and booked 2 king suites for our friends and ourselves. The rooms are beautiful. There is a lovely sitting area to have conversation and easily accomodates 2 couples. There is also a nicely appointed kitchen with marble counters, a dinette table and 2 chairs, full fridge, and stove to make it home away from home should you need to stay for an extended period of time. The king bed is very comfortable and the walk-in shower was very nice. We enjoyed the breakfast in the morning on Saturday. My only complaint is that on a busy morning seating would be at a premium. Even though it was not busy at all, we had to rearrange cocktail tables to have room for 4 to eat together. This was kind of awkward. Otherwise, we will be sure to go back to the Residence.

Went away with 2 other families last week during school vacation week. For a variety of reasons, ended up in Auburn, Maine with intention of skiing a few different mountains all within an hour away. The Residence Inn was such a pleasant surprise. The kids had a blast! Breakfast every morning with, among other things, make your own waffles. Throw in the pool, and the nice size 1 bedroon suite (or 2 if you have more kids) and you have a cheap ($118/night, 1 BR). If you have nothing to do school vacation week and just need a change of scenery, this place is perfect. Pet friendly, many kid friendly restaurants all within walking distance too.

I have stayed at this property on many previous occasions and have always had an excellent stay, things have changed. When I arrived at the hotel I asked for a king on the 4th floor, there was one available but it wasn't clean at that time, I told the desk agent/manager "Chris" that I would book it and come back later to check in. When I came back at 8p.m. a different person at the desk told me rooms were available on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floors. I explained that I had specifically reserved a 4th floor room, she said "there is no note on your reservation", she was then able to find a king on 4th floor. I got up to the room and it had a very strong odor of ionizer/ozone mixed with smoke. I did not want to have to deal with the desk staff again and opened windows and dealt with the smelly room. I got up in the morning to use the hot tub before I left for the day- it was filthy, full of grit and sand on the bottom and the water was very dirty. I f you are not going to keep a hot tub clean- just close it then. When I checked out and told the clerk about my issues with my stay she offered to give me some hotel points-no thanks, I will be staying at the Hilton Garden Inn from now on.

We've been staying here twice each year since the property opened and have always had a great stay. This time was very different and, we hope, an aberration. Breakfast was a disaster every day--running out of everything, basics like plates, bagels, juice, silverware, eggs, waffle batter, milk. The orange juice machine broke the first day of our stay. If it could not be repaired due to the holiday, would it have been so difficult to walk across the parking lot and pick up more? Cranberry went next. It was so bad that we skipped it our last day and got something on the way. When I asked to speak to a manager, I was told that no manager was on duty until 10 am. Easy to see how the chaos develops if the manager skips the breakfast/checkout rush. Our suite was in need of routine maintenance -- stained curtain, broken safe, detached drain cover, missing pillows, no linens for the sofa bed, not enough plates/glasses/silverware for 4 in a suite designed for six. The pool and especially the hot tub appeared dirty -- the hot tub was a grayish-green. Most of the staff was nice, but one of the women at the front desk was too busy checking her text messages to attend to customers and the woman working breakfast was downright surly. Internet was spotty and kept disconnecting -- even at 5:30 a.m., so too much traffic was not the problem. Worst of all for a hotel -- not enough hot water! On the plus side, maintenance did an awesome job clearing the snow.

Before we even step foot into this hotel the kids were bouncing off the van walls excited that we were staying here again. We've stayed her numerous times. This time just for 1 night. The staff was pleasant as always. And we all got a very good nights rest...their beds are oh so comfortable. I absolutely LOVE how you can turn some heat on in the bathroom. Sooo nice and warm and cozy after getting out of the shower. Plenty of room in their 1 bedroom suites for us and the kids to spread apart. Fully kitchen....stove, oven, microwave, fridge and dishwasher....along with plenty of dishes. Kitchen table for 2. Pull out sofa bed. Flat screen tv in both bedroom and living room. Love their granite countertops too. Would def be staying here over and over again for years to come.

I do have 2 complaints though....before checking out I needed to print something off their computers, but someone was on it. Would be nice if they had 2. And I went to get hubby some coffee and it had already been taken away.

Room Tip: Corner rooms are the biggest and love this configuration better than the other 1 bedroom suites.

I have stayed at this hotel several times. It is a good hotel for business. Like most residence inns the rooms are large and very nice. There are several restaurants located in walking distance as well as the mall. The breakfast and dinner served on Wednesday night were very good. The only downside to the stay was that that internet was not working. It did not work at all the first night and was very intermittent the second night. I had planned on doing some work from the room but was unable to due to this. The front desk did not have an explanation except saying that they are trying to get it resolved.

This is a great hotel, especially for those who are staying for more than one night. Rooms are clean and open. Full kitchens, large TVs, large bathrooms, beautiful decor. It has a large pool and hot tub. I have never seen such variety and good quality in complimentary (buffet style) breakfasts than the Residence Inn. Worth the price.
