I grew up in Alfred and am lucky to have family still living there. Whenever I visit home, one of my first stops is always The Bakery at Notre Dame. I always get the dinner rolls and a few other of their fresh breads or pastries. Everything baked here is of the highest quality - clearly made with love and good ingredients.
The bonus is the location of the bakery, up on Shaker Hill. It's a bit, but not too far, off the beaten path; sitting on the grounds of the Brothers of Christian Instruction, a peaceful oasis in the middle of apple groves and gardens and former Shaker buildings.
The Bakery is operated by the York County Shelter Programs - providing meaningful work experience to those who seek assistance from the Shelter.
If you are passing through, I strongly urge you to stop by and see the grounds on Shaker Hill and try the Bakery's fresh baked goods for yourself.
