“Excellent boutique hotel in Casco Viejo”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2010

We loved our December 2009 stay at Canal House. Casco Viejo is by far the most interesting area to stay in in Panama City, where you can see some of the real character and lifestyle of the Panamanian people, and Canal House is a jewel among limited hotel options in this area. The hotel has impeccable decor, excellent service and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. We stayed in the smallest of their three rooms, but didn't mind the small size at all, since we had full access to use the kitchen, living room, dining room and library. The location is great, just a block from Idependence Plaza (the heart of Casco Viejo) and a few blocks from the excellent restaurants on Plaza Bolivar. This part of Casco Viejo felt completely safe to us.

“Amazing place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2010

We were only lucky enough to stay at the Canal House for one night. It's an extraordinary place in an old renovated building. They are eco-friendly and only have AC in the rooms (which can be a little warm). We stayed in the smaller room with the king-sized bed. It had a separate sitting area. The common space has soaring ceilings and beautiful decorating. The Casco Antiguo are is an interesting mixture of older non-renovated buildings and beautifully renovated buildings. We had a great dinner a couple of blocks away from the hotel at Manolo Caracol. It's served as 10-12 tapas style dishes and is worth a visit. I would recommended this hotel to anyone.

“BEst B&B in the old city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2009

Although we were originally apprehensive about staying in the old city on our recent visit to Panama city, the charm of the canal house coupled with the ever helpful staff made it a pleasurable weekend.

“Beautiful room, beautifully restored building, great location”

My sister and I stayed here in March. It is a beautifully renovated home in the Casco Viejo. Our "suite" of rooms on the top floor was very spacious, clean and comfortable. As another reviewer mentioned, there is no elevator and, when we arrived rather late in the evening, there was no one to help us drag our heavy bags up all those stairs. It would have been nice to have been warned of this upcoming exertion!! We liked the location; there is plenty to explore in the Old Town and lots of good restaurants. Also a short and inexpensive taxi ride to the Miraflores locks, which we found to be an amazing sight. The service was pleasant and efficient and we enjoyed our breakfasts in the beautiful dining room. I highly recommend the Canal House and hope to return some day.

“Superb! A home away from home.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2009

A beautifully renovated elegant and classic old town residence. Very friendly and warm staff. The amenities are all a traveler would need. If you want an experience that gives you the sense of living in French Colonial Panama, rather than the ho hum of another over populated large commercial hotel, this is for you.

There is no elevator, so if climbing as much as three flights on a classic wooden/ wide staircase that carries you through this beautiful home is a physical limitation, this may not be the right choice. Otherwise, the Canal House is lovely.

Within walking distance of great restaurants and museums.
