“Like a kid in a candy store”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

I love this place. Make sure that you visit later in the afternoon to miss all the cruise ship crowds that stand in your way when you are trying to eat. After 3 pm is good since the pacific bound ships are coming through at that time. The ships are so close

“A Lifetime Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

Coming here from downtown Panama is about half an hour in taxi due to traffic and cost you about $10 to $12 depending on how you haggle with the driver. Bear in mind that most taxi's in Panama do pick up another passenger along the way. So you're not exclusively by yourself at least the fare is cheaper. The entrance fee for Mira Flores Locks is $8 that includes a museum tour and 3D shows which last 20minutes about the history and future of Panama Locks. I suggest to get there after 1300 as most ships pass after 1430 and the best day is Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday as passenger cruise ships are schedule to pass. It's thrilling to watch these cruise ships with their passenger taking photos of you and likewise. Of course cargo and tanker ships are exciting too. Unlike Gatun Locks this Miraflores Locks gets crowded with other onlookers/tourist so be ready to haggle for your space. Otherwise Gatun Locks in Colon is your option it's quiet, less crowded, and up close to ships cruising. I know this because I was there in Gatun. See my review on that one. Enjoy your stay here in Miraflores Locks.

“who knew a visitor center could be so interesting?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2013

The visitor center has a grandstand so you can watch ships as they pass through the lock. That is terrific in itself but the center also includes a simulator as if you were on the bridge of a ship going through the locks and the canal, and other interactive experiences. It has an exhibit of Panamanian bugs and insects which was fascinating, and a photo exhibit of migrating whales. A nice gift shop was also there with some canal related items that I saw nowhere else. The center also shows a moviein English and Spanish about the builing of the canal which was the perfect prelude to our canal transit.

You must come here! A new 3D movie and a interactive museum is included. The top experience is to see huge boats crossing the Canal

“A must see!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013

The Panama Canal is facinating, the history interesting, and the Miraflores Locks Visitor Center is a great way to see and hear all about the canal. If you have a guide, have them find out when a ship will be in the locks--makes the experience much more fun!
