“Grand old hotel - super service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2010

I made an online booking with this hotel and didn't expect much on just a stop over visit before proceeding to Bocas del Toro. The service from the front office staff was phenomenal - the lady at the front desk assisted us in calling the airport to deal with a baggage problem. The rooms had an air of old fashioned grandeur, clean and spacious except for the bathroom which was quite tiny. There were some small examples of things falling apart which didn't spoil things for me. The hotel set us up with a taxi driver who took us out to the canal and waited for us to bring us back to the hotel. We had a simple dinner at the restaurant down the street. Looked like a safe area to walk around even at night. We were served a simple but tasty breakfast in the morning included in the price.

Fantastic hotel with great, clean rooms. In a very safe location, with great restaurants at the end of the street. The staff were very helpful. Loved the pool area. Only thing that is lacking from there is a bar area. Great kitchen facilities. Would recommend to families and single travellers.

The Coral Suites is located in a really great location for vacationers who want to stay in Panama City. Centrally located to all amenities one may want and can walk to with out shelling out for a cab. The hotel itself is 6 stories with the 6th floor being a non occupancy floor with the dining room, gym, pool and laundry being there. The room I stayed in was very spacious being a solo traveler, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and eating area. The room furnishings included a dining table for two, small work desk (WiFi internet is free), two nightstands and a small sofa that definitely lacks support for sitting on. The sofa also pulls out into a bed so that may explain the lack of sitting comfort. There is a closet area that contains an iron and ironing board and a small wall mounted safe for your treasures. There was also a TV cabinet with a decent TV and DVD player. The kitchen had a full size fridge and small 4 burner stove that helped on those nights I that I felt like cooking something.
The hotel staff was always pleasant and helpful. The maid service was good and my room usually was cleaned around 1:30 - 2:30 depending which woman was cleaning my room that day. There is a parking garage on the ground floor and is gated at night. The laundry facility was pretty good and usually cost a dollar to wash and a dollar to dry and I was usually finished in an hour or so. The D-link WiFi router was just outside my door and I always had a good link. There was a router mounted on each end of the hallway on all floors. Can't comment on the breakfast that was included with the room since I did not partake. The A/C in the room worked well with a few spells where the room got a little warm but was comfy.
All in all the Coral Suites is well worth the price of admission ($80 - $90 USD a night) and I would definitely stay here again on future trips. Clean, good location, parking for the rental, good laundry room and best of all, affordable...... what more is there???

Panama City is a place that looks as if it is changing daily. There are many new high rise buildings being worked on in the downtown area right now. Just a few doors down from Coral Suites they are building a new hotel. I think this area will be redefining itself often for the next few years. Right now though, it is kind of rough. This was described as being a great location in my travel guide, but when I got there I was looking and looking and trying to figure out what was so great. There is the big casino right down the street, which is nice and seems to be the main focus of attention for this area. Also Manolo's restaurant right across the street from the casino was a great place to hang out and watch people. There are other casinos in the area too.
As for Coral Suites itself, the staff was very friendly, but their English was poor. The hotel is spotless and still looks brand new. The rooms are big and include kitchen and couch. My room, #109 had a view of the hotel next door , which was about 12 feet away. The pool area on the roof was nice, and I went swimming several times. The breakfast was very average, but included in the price. I paid $99 per night at 1800hotels.com. Don't ask them for a cab ride to the airport though..........they hooked me up with some guy who brought his own old and nearly falling apart old clunker and he stopped to pick up his daughter who was finishing up work at a local casino. He also left the windows wide open during the trip to the airport.
All in all the hotel was about average, and the area was below what I expected. I took day trips to keep myself away from the hotel area.

This hotel is well located and lots of stuff within walking distance. The rooms are very spacious (mine had a dinner table, small kitches, couch, desk, and queen bed. Wall mounted air-con worked okay, and shower had hot water. Guest services seemed nice, though not super helpful. Apparently there is also breakfast, and wi-fi is slow, but okay if you are close to the first floor.

One thing to be aware of. If you are a young guy looking for some action, this place is ideally located. If you are a family of missionaries, you may find all the casinos, streewalkers, and strip clubs/bars slightly offensive in this area.

That said, lots to do in area, though a tad seedy (though I didn't feel unsafe).

My wife and I just returned from a two week stay in Panama. During that time we spent 10 nights at the Coral Suites. We both found it wonderful, clean, conveniently located and price acceptable. The staff goes out of their way to make sure you have all you need. Super people all of them!!

I highly recommend the Coral suites.

We just returned from a two-week vacation in Panama City, Panama. We found this hotel to be very comfortable, convenient and affordable. The attendants could not have been friendlier or more accomodating. The room was pleasant, with a fully-functioning kitchen and a large outside patio. The bathroom was a bit small, but very clean and we always had plenty of hot water. The breakfast, which was included in the price of the room, was not spectacular but provided hot coffee and a selection of baked goods, fruit and cereals. Also provided was access to the internet, a parking garage, an excellent gym, several washer/dryers, and a pool. It is not luxurious, but comfortable!
