“Great place to stay in Panama City”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2014

We spent two nights here, on our arrival and before we left Panama. We arranged a transfer from Tocumen after our evening arrival and then another to the Allbrook airport in the mornign where we hired a car for our vacation. Sitting on top of the hill, Cerra Ancon, the hotel is in a quiet treed area and feels like an oasis high above the hustle and bustle of the city. The rooms are small but adequate with a ceiling fan and A/C and private bathrooms. There are two balconies overlooking some trees outside where there are some bird feeders which attract some interesting birds. The breakfasts are excellent and are partly buffet style and partly served. Fruit, yoghurt, cereal and a hot egg dish cooked in the way you choose. Juice and coffee and tea and toast too. The staff are helpful and arrange transfers and taxis and will order meals to be delivered too, if you ask them. The written directions for driving to the hotel could be clearer - we got lost because exactly which lane one should be in to get onto the Cerro Ancon road was confusingly expressed.

We greatly appreciate your review,
Ancon Hill has a lot to offer, among these is an amazing view of the city. From the B&B you can see the Bridge of the Americas and if you choose to trail upwards to the peak of the hill, you'll get a great panoramic view of the city at only 25 min walk.
The ladies in the kitchen take a lot of pride and love when preparing breakfast. I'll be sure to pass your kind regards along.

Moving around the city can be quite a challenge with our without a vehicle, hence we do our best in arranging transportation means for you at a reasonable price.
We hope to see you again!
Warm greetings from La Estancia Staff!

Great location on Cerro Ancon - walk straight up from the front of the B&B. Perhaps not so good for the centre of Panama City if that is important (it wasn't, for me). Breakfast served on balcony overlooking feeders (primarily for birds, but monkeys also visit). Comfortable, flexible on dates (I changed mine twice). Staff will order taxis, delivered meals, etc. Hot and cold drinking water always available, snacks and drinks (inc beer) to buy on honesty system. Transfer from airport worked very well. Very good all round experience.

Room Tip: Not all the rooms are en suite. At least one (including mine) have a bathroom for exclusive use acro...

Thanks for taking the time in reviewing us. We really cherish your thoughts.
We do our utmost to accommodate our guest, regardless of changes in their itinerary. As long as we have sufficient room availability we can do changes to your reservations.

Being a mere 5-8 min from the cities main activities, we can always assist you in getting around in an easy breezy manor. And also give you ideas of places you can visit and activities to do meanwhile in the city. For activities out of the city you can always talk to anyone in the office, they will be more than glad to help you.
We hope you will revisit Panama soon and choose La Estancia for your stay once again.

Thank you once again for your feedback. Kind regards from La Estancia

The B & B estancia was a fine choice and good stop over for our next destination in Pedasi. It was clean, had ac, hot water, wifi, 88 per night, staff was friendly and the breakfast was alright. It's tucked away out of the hustle of the city which I found very nice and peaceful.

Thanks for the pleasant review!
Yes, we are tucked away from the hustle, but it also does provide an excellent hub for those as yourself, that are planning on travelling further into the country.

A few minutes away from the domestic airport and quite close by to the bus terminal. If your planning a multi-stop travel you'll need to get a goodnight sleep as well. For that reason our B&B is located in gem of the city Ancon Hill.
We hope you enjoyed your travel to Pedasi, and wish to have you again at La Estancia.
Cheers!

We stayed at La Estancia for three days and loved every minute of it. The staff spoke English and were VERY helpful to us on several occasions. Our room and bed were comfortable and the breakfasts were good - especially eating out on the balcony watching the birds at the bird feeder. La Estancia B&B is located on Anton Hill which is a above Panama City in a hilly, treed area. It was very quiet and close to town.

My only complaint is that we purchased our stay through the Internet and paid extra to be picked up at the airport by a driver who would take us to La Estancia. I had several prior email conversations with them to verify our stay as well as being picked up. Our driver was not at the airport when we arrived as La Estancia had gotten our arrival time confused. Instead of picking us up at 8:30 AM they thought it was 8:30 PM. With the help of an English speaking Panamanian gentleman at the airport calling La Estancia, the driver arrived within 30 minutes and we were on our way.

Other than that, we were very satisfied customers and would recommend this place to anyone interesting in staying at a clean, quiet, B&B in a beautiful location not far from downtown Panama City.

Room Tip: No particular tip as all rooms are basically the same. I might suggest that you stay on the side of...

Thank you for a wonderful review, even though their was a mix-up with pick up times.

Once again we apologize, luckily our driver was able to pick you up in a timely fashion seeing as we are just 30 min away from the International Airport.
Nice to know you enjoyed the breakfast and the overall attention given by the staff.
The country is laced with a gran variety of birds all across the isthmus, Ancon Hill gets a good fraction of these winged beauties and you can catch a view of them right outside the B&B's balconies.

We are grateful for your recommendations and hope to have you again in the near future.
Warm greetings from La Estancia.

La Estancia is set in a beautiful, peaceful setting on Ancon Hill. It may not be for everyone as it it set apart from the city. But if you want a clean, quiet place to stay with an exceptionally helpful and friendly staff, La Estancia should be on your list. The parrots, tanagers, and monkeys that come to the feeder are a plus.
La Estancia serves a very nice breakfast: eggs and sausage to order, plus a table of breads, fruits, and yoghurt. There are no restaurants nearby, but we did order pizza one night. Otherwise , we went to the Amador Peninsula, a short taxi ride away. A good idea is to take a cab to Mi Ranchito seafood restaurant an hour or so before sunset and walk along the causeway. It is a beautiful and refreshing time.
Another suggestion is to walk up to the top of Ancon Hill shortly after dawn. It is about twenty-five minutes to the top through a beautiful forest. From the summit you can have great views of both the city ans the Canal.
If you are arriving to Panama City by air, I would suggest you have La Estancia make pick-up arrangements. The driver was very patient--there were four of us arriving from two different cities--and the price reasonable.

We found nothing good to say about the hotel, staff or or stay. The rooms were very small, stuffy, drab and uncomfortable.
The staff wasn't friendly, just doing a job.
The breakfast was mediocre at best.
Location was far from things to do and restaurants.

Two friends and I stayed here recently and found it just as good as a few years ago when we were here. It is quite simple but clean and comfortable. (If you are seeking a modern upscale luxurious hotel, this is not a good fit for you.) The location is lovely if one likes watching monkeys, other critters and birds from the balconies and prefers to be away from the noise of the city. The rooms facing the canal do have some background noise from the container shipping port which might bother a light sleeper; the rooms in the back, facing Ancon hill are quieter but lack a balcony looking out at the trees and critters. Breakfast is good and there are drinks and snacks always available ( reasonably priced if not gratis). The staff has always been exceptionally helpful. Gilma got our Air Panama flight tickets and has also arranged other things. One can't walk here into the main parts of the city, but it is easy to get a taxi. The staff will arrange transport between the inn and airports, and for domestic flights, its location near Allbrook is very convenient. One feels very welcomed here, and I would certainly come back here.

Room Tip: choose an Ancon hill side room if you are a light sleeper. You can enjoy the shared balcony at othe...
