“horryble and thiefts.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2013

The hotel is horrible, no wi-fi, need to pay for the save and local phone calls in the room, the hotsl is soround by prostitutes and thiefs, the casino is no way you will win, the rulet in 10 minutes game had 3 times the green, the parking is very dangerous. But please do not go to the casino better buy something and keep your money.

Centrally located, and handy to the Rey, yes. Rooms clean and comfortable, yes.. although we had 3 tries at getting the right one. We booked 3 nights on the Executive Level, and paid extra for access to the Executive lounge and its benefits. The first room was not what we had ordered, they changed us immediately. The second, spacious and comfortable, (don't bother with the view) was fine until the workmen started hammering and banging next door. We were changed again. The third was quiet and comfortable, affording a slightly better outlook. The minibar was locked, when we asked for the key, we were told no. Why? Because on check in the desk had not taken our credit card details. We remedied that, and discovered a minibar with very little selection, and no small bottles of sparkling wine. The internet is free, except you have to log on every time. I had to wait at the main desk for the passwords while the receptionist chatted with another staff member, and changed some money. Let me qualify here. I was at the desk first. The first afternoon we went to check out the Executive Lounge - these lounges are generally open 3 - 7 or thereabouts. It was closed. Open 5 - 7 only. So we returned at around 5.20. The 'nibbles' consisted of a few pieces of overcooked chicken and fish balls. That was it. No fruit, no cheeses, no small meats. The alcohol choices were limited. The available wines were sub standard to say the least. No small bottles of sparkling wine. The table we sat at was dirty, and only half set. We relocated to the main bar. They do not stock small bottles of sparkling wine. The hotel only carries over priced large bottles. About 3 hours later, the hotel sent to our room a cheese plate - no crackers, breads or condiments, just cheese, and a half size bottle of red wine (not what we were looking for). Breakfast the next morning was much better. The service was good, the scrambled eggs, light and fluffy, the breakfast options a better standard, although some of the fruit was a little tasteless, there was a good selection, and well presented. The orange 'juice' was a concentrate. We tried the lounge again in the afternoon at 5.55. There was no food. It had been finished. We ordered something please and was told 20 minutes. We decided to return, but when we did so, we found the lounge was locked. (6.20) The evening Manager asked for something to be sent to our room. Overcooked fish balls, and some sort of unseasoned potato croquettes, arrived. No condiments, just a plate with a few of these nibbles. We gave the third night a miss, and went elsewhere. The Manager said she would send up her business card. Would we email our concerns and she would discuss them at next mornings meeting. The card did not arrive. We were also very conscious of some areas of the halled areas having a musky smell, which was unpleasant when walking through, especially around the Executive lounge and the business centre. (there appeared to be 3 computer stations, there was a nice couch area for meetings, and a grand desk for clients use.)
The bell staff were efficient, friendly and in good spirits. We enjoyed their service and tipped them accordingly. The hotel restaurant, pool, and main bar was pretty much empty the whole time we were there, although there appeared to be a live music set up in the corner of the bar for the Saturday night. We didn't check out the Casino.
All in all, a disappointing stay, especially since the first impression is one of excellent efficient service and accommodation.

Room Tip: Be precise with what you request, and ask for an overview of the type and location of the room. The...

We had a short stay here en route to Bocas Del Toro and found the accommodation very comfortable, restaurant at which we ate on 3 occasions provided excellent value for money (not always the case for hotel restaurants) and top food. I recall in particular a craving for something hot and spicy - half a dozen chicken wings for $2.50 US was excellent value. Fillet mignon for $8.50 - not too many places on this planet would deliver... Service in the restaurant and the hotel in general was polite, friendly and swift.

Not a big casino fan so can't comment in that regard.

Location was excellent - able to have a quick look around to get the feel of the place.

I can't recall the rate but it was definately worthwhile. It was actually March 2012 we were there.

Room Tip: Upper floors away from lifts and stairwells is a good rule

It has been a while. We stayed at this hotel for 5 days and nights, and enoyed the friendly staff and good drinks. Casino action is something we always enjoy on all our trips where available. The casino at the hotel offers a fair variety of slots. I can say we won some money on the 3 reel coin machines, and some on the penny machines. I would rate the hotel very good and the casino average. I have stayed at this hotel twice, and found it easy to get around with taxis always available. There are other casinos close by, and good restaurants.
Need I say more!

I was in Panama for a week vacation. I reserved this hotel 2 months in advance on Orbitz for $78.00 day. I checked on Orbitz 2 weeks before my trip & price had increased to $108.00 so always book early. This hotel is right smack in middle of downtown with Habanos Cafe & Beirut Restaurant just one block away. There is also a Supermarket Rey to stock up on groceries only a couple blocks away. The hotel has a restaurant, bar, gym & a small swimming pool that I never saw anyone in. I did not have the breakfast buffet because I do not want to eat that much but did order the $7.00 fruit plate. I was just expecting waiter to fill plate with fruit from the buffet but they actually peeled all the papaya, pineapple, watermelon, etc fresh and best fruit I have had in awhile. The rooms are quite large with two double beds. The front desk was nice enough to give me the pool facing room, the street facing rooms can be noisy from all the taxis honking horns. The rooms were large & clean with flat screen TV & refrigerator, there is no microwave. The shower has a huge place size shower head which was really nice. The water does not get super hot so could not soak in a bath but hot enough for showers. All the staff is friendly of course. The BEST thing about this hotel is that the walls & floors are very thick...I did not hear the guests in the other rooms AT ALL! There is nothing worse than hearing the next room TV, talking, kids running, snoring, etc. This hotel is a regular hotel for business travelers from other countries such as Brazil , India, etc as I saw a lot of businessmen in suits & spoke to a few. One taxi driver told me this is considered one of the 5 star hotels along with the Marriott & Riande Luxury. I saw a placard on front desk showing room rates from $250.00 to $500.00. I asked are these normal rates & he said it is. You also get free WiFi (ask front desk for WiFi code) & there is business center with 8 free desktops with internet access. There is also hotel drivers but will cost you double what regular cab charges but the cars are new and air conditioned compared to the cabs. Overall a great place for the price I paid.

I really enjoyed my stay at Continental Hotel and Cassino in Panama City (September 2011). The room was big and clean, good amenities and great breakfast. The staff was very helpful. One very important thing: they don't offer free wi-fi. There are good and inexpensive restaurants nearby (I recommend Restaurant Beirut) for a good meal.
