“Bridge the Ditch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2013

An impressive steel-arch contruction that you will cross when arriving from anywhere west of Panama City. It makes you wonder how they coped before 1962 when the bridge was built.

“A landmark monument that is worth crossing!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013

The bridge of the Americas is always to sign that says you have arrived in Panama City... for those of us who live upcountry and drive down to the city, and for those arriving from the Pacific Ocean in cruise ships.

I would say the bridge is old and ready for a major remodel, which I think is underway as the roads are marked with spray paint symbols at places that need attention.

Go over the bridge and make a right turn, and you will drive to Vera Cruz, an old sleepy fishing village, with a few unknown seafood restaurants hidden on the beach as you drive by.... keep your eyes open!!

Very friendly people all over the place, always willing to smile and say hello to perfect strangers......

“A TRUE PANAMA ICON”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2013

This bridge was built in the late 1960s by the Americans. It spans across the Panama Canal, joining North and South America. I recommend you include this brisge as part of your vacation plans. Dont recommend walking it though. Sidewalk is very narrow and cars practically fly through it!

“Whatever”

It is a bridge...nothing special. You can learn a bit of history about it in the Canal Museum in Casco Viejo. You can see it from many vantage points.

“A sigh of relief as you cross...”

This bridge gets you out of the city and on to the lovely countryside of Panama - jungle and beaches! NIce views of ships coming in to the canal too.
