“Lovely morning bird/nature walk”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2013

Visited Pipeline Road with Ancon Expeditions. Our guide, Ariel, was excellent. We saw numerous birds (trogons, toucans, parrots, etc.) as well as two kinds of monkeys and a sloth. The walk through the rainforest itself, on a (mercifully) cloudy morning, was a delight in its own right.

“Not too exciting!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

We wanted a shortened version of the all day bird hikes thru the Park so we decided to take the tram from the Gamboa Resort to a lookout station overlooking the park. Their website said they had one leaving at 10:30AM so we made sure to get there with enough time to spare. When we arrived we were told they no longer had any morning trams & the first one was at 1:30. We did come back, but I was disappointed because they say you see the most birds & animals in the mornings. We had a guide in our tram car & he did his best to find things for us to see. We did see 2 Toucans & a slouth curled up in a tree. Some of the other cars saw nothing. I thought it was expensive for what we didn't see. Wouldn't do it again.

“A great experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013

We hiked here for over 2 hours with a guide. What a wonderful experience! Saw beautiful butterflies, some monkeys, agoti, and a sloth. A real Panama adventure.

“Camino de plantacion”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2013

The "Camino de Plantación" is a nice trek and provides an easy and pleasant opportunity to have a look at the Panamanian tropical forest. Entrance is located at the beginning of the Canopy Tower Road (not worth walking up), at the end of the free parking place on the left. It is the remnant of an automobile road built at the time of the Canal construction. The climbing slope is therefore mild, making it an easy 5.5 km trek even for seniors (I am one of them). I reached it on a Wednesday early morning when it was still reasonably cool and spent almost the whole day there watching trees, flowers, butterflies, ants, dragonflies, birds and listening to monkeys (did not see them) without meeting a single human.

Distances are marked in km. During the first km, along a pleasant river with some little cascades, there are some dilapidated signs indicating the names of trees as well as places for rest and picnic. Then the "camino" narrows but remains easily practicable. It is almost entirely under the shadow of trees, hence not in burning sun. To my pleasant surprise, I did not encounter a single mosquito during the whole day (end of January).

The entrance fee is US$ 3. Nobody was in the little booth at the entrance and I could not pay it. As a compensation, I collected a full bag of wastes left over along the trail by previous visitors and brought it back to "civilization".

“A lifetime experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2013 via mobile

Out of know where on the trail, we heard the Howler Monkeys!! Unbelievable sound and we were rooted to our spot for quite awhile while they "performed" for us. No one else around but us and it was an experience of a lifetime!
