“Beautiful but pricy....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

Trump Ocean Club is a very beautiful and stylish hotel. The rooms look amazing, bed and bath tub are great! Location can be better but in Panama city is easy to travel by taxi (just stop a taxi on the road because the taxiservices from the hotel are very expensive!) The only thing we were dissapointed about is that in the time we travelled (December) there was only sun at the pool deck until around 10.00 due to all the high buildings around. The breakfast is wonderfull and really worth the money but for the rest everything in this hotel is at least three times the price from Panamanian standards.

Dear Wendy V,

Thank you for kind words about our hotel. We also apologize for your diminished ability to enjoy the sun in our pool deck due to the adjacent buildings. With regard to taxi service in Panama City, while we do not wish to discourage guests from using local taxis, we do have an obligation to advise our guests that taxis are not regulated in Panama as they are in other parts of the world. Consequently, there is no regulatory oversight with regard to fares, service, vehicle condition, etc. Travelers should also know that it is a common practice to share taxis in Panama, and the driver may at his discretion pick up other passengers while en route to your destination. The hotel taxi service is an alternative that ensures a private trip in a new, fully air-conditioned fleet of vehicles. We are delighted to hear you had the opportunity to enjoy our buffet breakfast. We will address your comments about our prices to our Management Team.
Thank you for choosing us and we look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

We stayed 5 nights at the Trump. Check in and etc was simple and easy! All the amenities and etc. were great. The pool on the 13th floor gives you a great view of the Pacific and plenty of sun from 6 am to 12 noon. After 12 noon the sun is blocked by it's own building.

We also paid $280 per person for an all you can eat and drink with live music. Be aware that when the food is gone, they will not bring out any more. Furthermore, the "open bar" is limited to only vodka and rum (no beer or other cocktails). If you do go, don't bother with reserving a table, because they will just give it to someone else. In our case this is exactly what happen. My suggestion is go to the Over 30 bar or other restaurants/bars on the Causeway and watch all the fireworks and etc!!!

We had a nice short vacation visit to Panama, but the Trump Ocean Club was not the highlight. Although we checked in at 3 PM, the advertised check-in time, our room was not ready. Management did give us another room to rest from our trip while housekeeping finished cleaning our room, but only after we insisted. Our room (a junior suite) was large and stylish, and quiet, and included a terrific light-filled bathroom with giant shower and free-standing tub. The partial water view included views of nearby condos, but still was pleasant. The breakfast buffet, free Internet and state-of-the art fitness facility all were great, as was the value at $349/night during the peak holiday season. But disappointed to find upon arrival that the Spa (featured prominently on the web site) is not even close to being ready to open, even though the hotel has been open for more than a year. The massages we booked in advance of arrival through the concierge and confirmed by "The Spa at Trump" were to be given by therapists from a neighboring spa, and done in our room. Also while the hotel is only minutes from downtown, it is isolated on a cul-de-sac in a neighborhood of condos, with nothing within walking distance in the way of shopping or restaurants. The hotel did not feel like a resort, but more like an urban hotel, despite being on the water. There is no access to the water; the crowded pool deck is on the 13th floor. Nearly every service need went unmet, or only partially met. Housekeeping one day did not come to clean the room until 5 PM. A request for a second bath robe was completely ignored. The tourist excursions reserved through the web site either were not arranged as promised or were mis-handled. Even the airport pick-up arranged by the hotel was not what we had asked for. Not the professional treatment expected of a major hotel operator. Especially for the vacationing tourist, there must be better options in terms of location and professionalism, and the availability of a spa.

This is not a 5 star hotel. Poor service, poor food, poor housekeeping, poor design. Staff were very friendly and willing. Room was nice and bed very comfortable. Breakfast was a bun-fight. The pool only gets sun until 11.30, so don't go if you are looking for somewhere to lounge in the sun. Hotel is well situated. Management dealt quickly with complaints (30 minute wait for check-in, room not made-up etc.). Fantastic gym. Despite what it says on the website, their is no spa.
Perfectly good hotel if it was ranked as a 3-4 star.

I am writing this review in the airport on my way home. I stayed at the Trump for 3 nights and was a solo traveller.

I will start by saying the hotel is beautiful. The rooms are nicely appointed, the open bath and rain shower are great. The bed is probably the most comfortable I have ever slept in. The pool area was great, with the exception of only getting sun until 11:30 and the inevitable towel game that was being played.

The restaurants are good. I ate at Barcelona, Tejas and did room service one night, with Tejas being the best as far as food quality (which it should be for the price). Service at Barcelona was not great, and it was not the language barrier as I pointed to the items I wanted to order and two wrong dishes were brought out. The waiter recovered though and offered me a complimentary glass of wine.

Now for the somewhat negatives. Everyone was very friendly, and service was good with the exception of the pool wait staff. They seemed to be wandering around aimlessly and it took forever to get their attention. Then you would order a drink and it wouldn't come, but it would be on your bill. This is were the hotel should be making its money, they should be running and hustling. Also, the room was not as clean as I expected, and there were small things like the ipod dock didn't work, there was a rip in the sheets etc.

All in all it was a great hotel, especially at the rate I paid. I would definitley stay here again, I just expected a tiny bit more from the Trump name.

Room Tip: As most other reviewers have said, get an odd number room. There is no construction on this side.

My girlfriend and I booked 3 nights at the Trump to start off our December Panama vacation. The hotel looks impressive from the outside and even more impressive inside. The hotel décor and ambiance was reminiscent to me of one of the new high end hotels in Vegas (think the Encore), but cleaner and softer on the senses.

What I loved:
-The elevators: it's like a willy wonka glass elevator - we can see the entire inside of the building as you go up, then it "goes through the roof" and you have beautiful views of the water and city.
-The pool: definitely OMG level. Two large infinity pools on the 13 floor overlooking the Pacific and downtown. You feel like you're swimming in the ocean from a visual perspective. Even if you don't stay at the Trump, it's worth going to check this pool out...
-Seeing Mel Gibson eating lunch at the breakfast/lunch restaurant, Barcelona. :)

What I didn't like:
-The hotel's location: though it's perfect for the setting (beautiful waterfront views), it's unfortunately a healthy car ride anywhere you want to go. The only thing in the vicinity of the hotel is the Multiplaza Mall (a huge boutique mall - worth checking out), and other large hotel/condo buildings
-Construction: there are huge condo buildings on either side of the Trump right now with lots of construction, so that's what you hear during the day, and the visual isn't appealing.
-Transportation from the hotel: the hotel charges cabs a huge royalty for picking you up at the hotel, which turns every cab ride from $3-$4 to $10-$15 (or even $20!). If it's not night time, I strongly suggest walking a few blocks towards the multiplaza mall and catching your own yellow cab. They'll charge you $4 to go to Casco Viejo for example. Just make sure and set the price before you get in, as no taxis in Panama have meters.

Overall it's a beautiful and luxurious stay. We were able to score a fantastic room rate ($179), but note that they can easily recover that with their restaurant/drink prices as well as transportation from the hotel. The restaurants are pretty good quality, but definitely overpriced. If you're smart about it, you could probably pull off one of the most luxurious stays for some of the lowest prices of any place I've been.

Room Tip: Upon checking in, we asked "What upgrades do you have available" and the front desk guy ch...

Very nice hotel at a reasonable price. They have not finished the casino or the spa and the room prices are still affordable. The rooms are clean with big plush beds and views of the Pacific Ocean. The pool is by far the best part of the hotel and was a good way to start off our trip to Panama City. It is on the 13th floor and includes infinity pools that look out onto the ocean. There was plenty of lounge chair space. Make sure to get to the pool before noon in order to lay in the sun. At noon the sun goes behind the building next door, leaving all the pools in the shade. In terms of weather and when to travel here I would recommend January. The rainy season is supposed to end mid-December but we battled with on and off rain showers during our trip.

The staff was incredibly nice. All are fluent in English and are very helpful. They helped us book a city tour with a local tour company. While the tour itself was very expensive ($200 for the 2 of us) it was worth it as we were able to see all the main attractions (including the canal in one day).

The area that the hotel is located in is safe. The hotel is surrounded by not much other than high end condos. The closest attraction in the neighborhood is a high-end mall. All the good food and cultural experiences we enjoyed were located in the Casco Viejo neighborhood on the other side of the city.

A helpful tips on cabs. All cabs that the concierge grabs for you at the hotel will be overpriced. For example, a cab ride from the Trump to Casco Viejo should be about $3, but if you get a cab at the Trump it will cost you about $10-$15. I recommend walking a few blocks and grabbing your own cab.

We booked a package that included breakfast everyday at the hotel's Barcelona restaurant. I would highly recommend this. Primarily because it is such a good value and convenient to grab a free bite before exploring the city. It is buffet style and the food is decent. We slept in one day and missed breakfast. We went to Barcelona for lunch and ended up paying $80 for the same food. Ouch. The hotel is also known for celebrity sightings. We enjoyed lunch sitting just a few yards from Mel Gibson.

Overall a nice hotel if you are looking for a luxurious home base while exploring Panama City.
