“Lovely room but ............”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2013 via mobile

This hotel is a lovely building that was once a bakery. We had two nights here in room 1. It was a great bedroom plus a separate seating and cooking area if needed. This is the only hotel I have ever stayed in that has just rooms - no restaurant, bar etc, just a small reception area for checking in. Breakfast was either brought to your room or eaten in the cafe next door. There were a number of restaurants in the area.
We arrived arrived around midday to be told that our room would be ready at 3pm, which is not unusual. However, there was not really anywhere to wait in the hotel, but luckily our guide arrived early and we did a half day tour of the city.
Casa del Horno is in the Casco Viejo part of Panama City and is a World Heritage site in the process of being restored. This meant that several of the narrow streets were closed and there was a lot of construction work (and traffic). Once all the renovation has been completed, this should be a lovely safe area of Panama City, but as less than half the work seems to have been completed so far, this may be a while.
The hotel is over a restaurant and the area is quite lively in the evening and if you are a light sleeper, the noise might keep you awake. We had no problems sleeping even though our room was directly above the outside seating area for the restaurant.

Very comfortable suite on 1st floor with excellent facilities. Owner has done a good job converting old bakery with excellent italian restaurant. Stairs are very steep and no lift/elevators so dont recommend for elderly or infirm. Staff friendly and efficient. Old city is very interesting but under huge amount of reconstruction so that narrow roads often being dug up and buildings being modernised. Old city very safe due to large numbers of police.

Room Tip: Not facing road.

This great hotel, tucked in a small street of Old Panama City is a great find. We had a beautiful room on the third floor with a view of the old cathedral. The only problem was that the internet did not properly reach the third floor. We were told they knew about it and were in the process of fixing it. Eric, Reynaldo and Didia were the perfect people at the front desk. Amazingly helpful and friendly, with great recommendations and suggestions. Would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: We stayed on the third floor in the back of the building overlooking the cathedral. Great room.

Perhaps if I hadn't stayed at Las Clementinas I might have liked this hotel more, but I had and Casa del Horno paled in comparison. The room decor is cold and modern without one good reading light anywhere. The rain shower is fun. The "balcony" had none of the great view of Las Clementinas and the chairs were super uncomfortable. The air conditioning was incredibly LOUD. There was no way to turn down the fan and when the LOUD music began in their restaurant downstairs we were thankful to drown it out with the AC. The breakfast was continental and served by an unhelpful staff person next door in their coffee shop. The desk staff were not very knowledgable and had to constantly research even local sites to get us information. On our last night we were supposed to have a wake up call and two box breakfasts. Neither happened and in fact no one was at the desk when we went to settle our bill even though we had been told their would be someone. We were thankful that we had set out own alarm. I would not stay here again unless Las Clementinas was not available. It lacked charm.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 5 which looked out on the Cathedral of Panama and some run down roof tops. I foun...

simply amazing, great reception staff, personalized welcome letter , help with luggage, we arrived from the jungle, with backpacks and muddy shoes, treated with respect , offered an elegant room, exposed brick and spacious, got us restaurant reservations to a full restaurant,
offered free and very generous late checkout, felt very welcome, the kids and wife loved it
everyone in the hotel seemed very impressed

Room Tip: all the rooms are basically the same, they let us see all the rooms, and they are all good, though f...

my friend and i recently stayed at the casa del horno. it was a really lovely experience. the room (number 3) was lovely - very big and very comfortable. we had a nice balcony overlooking the street. the staff were very helpful. One of our transfers didn't arrive which meant we were in danger of missing our flight. the guy on reception (ronaldo?), was extremely helpful and arranged a taxi very quickly. the location is very good near nice restaurants and bars. stay here, it won't disappoint!

Excellent small boutique property with great service. They upgraded us a room category to their loft suite which is outstanding. It has an excellent location and is located in a nice section of Casco Viejo. I would suggest having dinner at Las Clemintinas which is only a few blocks down the street.

Room Tip: Go for the top level loft suites they are quiet and have a nice balcony
