“No substitute for good service and care!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2013

We arrived in Panama City with reservations at this small boutique hotel. We were hesitant because we had never stayed in Casco Viejo. But I have to say that the stay was wonderful. The hotel is very clean and comfortable, the staff is adorable and the food in the downstairs restaurant is first class. No need to go out from the hotel if you do not wish to do so. There are lots of places to see close by, all within walking distance however. A lovely place to stay a few days discovering the hidden treasures of Panama's Casco Viejo!

Room Tip: Only stairs, no elevator!

Thank you so much for the lovely review! We're so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us, and your time in Casco Viejo! It's a beautiful part of the city, even with all the changes taking place now. We hope you come again! And ps... I think the staff is pretty adorable, too.

This really is a fabulous boutique hotel. The staff are incredibly pleasant and are forever going out of their way to ensure your stay is special. The General Manager is always around to ensure everything is perfect. The rooms are spacious and beautifully appointed. The linen and beds are very comfortable. I was travelling as a family and children are well accomodated for. It is truly a charming place and a must if you are staying in Panama.

Room Tip: If you have difficulty walking request a room on the lower floors as there is no elevator. If not t...

This is a gem of a hotel in Casco Vieho. The suites are lovely and spacious. There is a living room/dining room and separate bedroom. The bathroom is lovely and there is a kitchen with refrigerator, sink, microwave, coffee service. There are interesting "collections" decorating the rooms ( antique cameras, etc).

Their customer service is top notch and kudos to Maria and Miguel for all your help. Food here is excellent - we had two dinners and two breakfasts. The roof view of the city is wonderful.

Do know that there is no elevator so be prepared for stairs. The staff will handle your luggage. They will also tell you the best places to eat and shop ( they have a little booklet to guide you) and the safest places to walk. You are a short walk from almost anything you would want to see in the Casco, Be advised as you have no doubt read that the area is undergoing a complete transformation. Construction abounds and in a year or two this area will be stunning. The new brick roads are in, in many areas and the buildings are being redone in many areas. There are road closures and detours - BEWARE if you are trying to drive yourself. This hotel is right across the road from a station of the national policia so there is quite a bit of activity there - and maybe even a feeling of additional safety.

One caveat on sleeping. We were in Room 2 over the bar on a Saturday night which is the night that they have live music in the bar and we found it difficult to get some early sleep as is our habit. They should be through at 11 or so but we could clearly hear the music and this may not be the best choice for an early sleeper on a Saturday. Get a higher room off the road if you can as well.

Room Tip: Ask for the highest room you feel you can climb to for the quietest room and best view,

Thank you so much for taking the time to write about your stay with us. We could not be happier that you enjoyed the rooms and our staff! We're sorry that the music from our live jazz filtered up to your room. It's purely acoustic so we had thought it would be fine. We will be looking into ways to minimize whatever discomfort for our guests in the hotel.

Loved our stay here. the room was huge and very luxurious. the staff were very helpful and the free breakfast was very tasty. great location for wandering around the old city-which we definitely recommend. there is no elevator, so if you have a hard time walking up stairs make sure you get a lower room!

Truly lovely little hotel in the old city. if one is going to stay in Panama this is the place to stay for a unique and intimate experience. Having said that, it is not perfect. Be prepared to walk up many steps (thank goodness the desk clerks are eager and willing to take up your luggage). This historic building was recently converted to a hotel in the last few years. However, while they retained much of the charm, they overlooked some crucial points. The stairs, landings, and bathroom tile looks dirty and old, some of this could be due to a bad installation of the tile (Panamanian construction does not seem real spiffy). The old doesn't bother me but the dirt does. The suites are very spacious but the bedroom we had lacked a mirror. Each suite has a living room and nice kitchen. I thought the kitchen was a waste of space because at the expense of the hotel, I don't seeing the typical guests worried about buying meals out and wonder where they would find food to prepare in the room. Back to price, I do think it was over priced but assume they want to keep the price high to limit backpackers from filling the space with many people which it could accommodate. The best part was the staff. What charmers they were and helpful as well. One more thing, I strongly suggest waiting to stay in this part of Panama for the reconstruction of the town to be completed. Give it ten years and it will be a wonderful destination.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write your review. We were very happy to hear that you found our staff lovely and the rooms themselves spacious and well-appointed. I was very sorry to hear that you found certain areas of the hotel dirty, as we take such pains with our cleaning. Since all tile in the hotel is original to the building, sometimes it can give the appearance of being dirty even though they aren't. The wear of time can give them that appearance, certainly. You can be assured I will be following up with the staff.

Casco is, as you say, going under renovations and construction, but it's an exciting time to visit if you can handle the noise and confusion.

We enjoyed our stay at Las Clementinas in April, 2013. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Our lovely apt. # 6 was clean and bright in addition to being spacious. The bed was so comfortable. Although there is no elevator, the walk up to our room and rooftop terrace provided stunning views of the city. The garden patio is a tropical and lovely spot to enjoy while sitting under the lush vegetation. Breakfast and dinner were great. Once outside you are in the midst of a great renovation of this old city.
Our private guide, Omar, from PBAHOLDINGGROUP was fantastic. He was knowledgeable, entertaining and passionate about Panama. After showing us many historic sights and areas we enjoyed lunch at Miraflores Lock. He wandered with us through Casco Viejo explaining its historical significance. By days end we had become friends. One look at a photo of Las Cementinas Boutique Hotel and I knew the top corner unit would be mine. Spacious, with beautiful decor, three balconies overlook the city. Although located right next to the police department and adjacent to the seamier side of Casco, I found complete and uttter quiet with every close of the balcony doors. Owners KC Hardin and Ramon Ricardo Arias have put together an incredibly helpful little Casco guidebook with many inside tips on the sites and dining in Casco. KC, his lovely wife and pooch even met with me for an early morning hike to the top of Cerro Ancon. Everything is within walking distance. At the front desk, Marvin and Miguel were the quiet, attentive superstars who made my stay complete. They toted luggage, made arrangements for everything from mojitos to tours and just checked on my general whereabouts and happiness. I made a promise to Marvin, that when I moved to my conference across town in the financial district, I would continue to hike some stairs. I did; albeit, huffing "I made a promise," every step of the way. I found the staff incredibly helpful, respectful and kind; always courteous. I loved seeing something so unique come together, not only as a successful business enterprise, but with with a gentle hand on the pulse of the people of Old Casco.

This review made me smile. From Marvin extracting exercise promises to K.C. joining you for a morning hike... these are definitely the things that make Las Clementinas what it is. It really is a little snapshot into what those of us who work here (or own, in K.C.'s case) are all about. We are so glad you enjoyed yourself, and hope you return.
