“Scary place to be”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2010

The staff in the hotel were nice and courteous, though they spoke little English. We got to Panama City at 2AM and when the cab driver suggested that for 10$ more we could get a better place, we thought he was ripping us off. it was only the next day did we realize where we had landed. It was close to Casco Viejo, I give it that much. But it was better for us to pay 2$ from the Banking district to visit Casco Viejo than stay in its vicinity. In the morning, there were buses zooming by at top speed and barely gave us any sleep. We decided to checkout and leave. We noticed a young couple fawning over each other signing up at the register and then sauntering (without luggage) to a room. Clearly, they rent the room by the hour too.
The toilets were clean but had no soaps and the bed was hard. I would not go here ever again.

We arrived in Panama was actually referred by our friends that just came back before us....Great rooms and service...I can honestly say the staff goes that extra mile for the client (something we haven't been seeing lately)...they arranged anything we needed...as for being safe, I had no problems walking around with my Wife...All in All, excellent for the value...will be back..

First rate all the way....It reminds me of a Miami hotel inside....Granted it's in a shady part of town, it's a 7 block walk (or $1 taxi) to Casco Antigua and a $4 taxi to nightlife of calle Uruguay....You can part across the street for free.....They have wifi too...The rate just went up to $39 from $29.....

Had a great stay at the Hotel Santana in Panama City. The rates were phenomenal compared to other hotels in Panama and is such a clean place to stay in.The staff were so nice & went out of their way to help contribute to a great stay at this hotel. As well, security guards were on site 24/7 , never did I once see them gone.

ok, lets face it this is not 5 star hotel, but at $29 per night its a still, stayed in Decapolis for few nights at $300 per night when my trip got extended and Decapolis was sold out, found Santana on trip advisor was very skeptical about previous review but since hotels in panama are in great demand and I needed a place to stay, gave it a chance. Alright and now for review. Hotel is new (less then 6 month old) price is the greatest (stayed five nights for the fraction of single night stay in Decapolis) . The staff are friendly. Melissa thanks for your help in booking trips. As for location $2 taxi ride from everything. Decent breakfast and comfy bed.

The hotel and staff were lovely - but the location is scary!
Cab drivers wouldn´t drop us here saying it is a red zone.
Walking back to our hotel one afternoon (not dark!), locals pushed us in the other direction and told us people with guns were waiting for us.
We forfeited 2 nights pre paid accommodation and moved to a safer area of Panama City. The cost was only $5 more per night. Well worth it!

To whom it may concern
Santa Ana in the old city of Panama is a pretty safe place .

The facts are :
-The hotel is located 2 minutes away from Casco Veijo (the biggest tourist location).
- There is a 24 hour security in the hotel who let's you in or out with a buzzer.
-There is always police patrolling the area and making sure all the tourist are safe.
-Hotel Santana has an agreenment with the tourist police (which is seperate then the regular police) to come by the hotel every 2-3 hours.
-Our priority remains "customer saftey" and "customer service" and we go out of our way to ensure them.
-If for any reason a guest feels uncomfortable walking in the area we will arrange for transportation.

I needed a pet friendly place to stay overnight in Panama City while I waited for my flight out the next day. The rates were exceptional and the staff was great. They went out of their way to accommodate me and my dog. The owner even gave me a ride to the airport after I had a problem finding a shuttle (taxi) that was large enough for the dog crate. If it wasn't for the staff at Hotel Santana and the wonderful owners, I would never have made it to the airport in time. I highly recommend staying here to any traveler looking for a place in Panama City. There's also a grocery store right around the corner and you'll find several curb-side vendors selling fresh fruits and veggies. If you go there ask for Melisa (the manager) and tell her Jeff and Nota say "hi".
