“Mediocre Hostel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012

First place to land in panama. Great city poor hostel. I stayed for 2 nights. The staff really let it down, i never felt welcome the whole time i stayed there. That same attitude continues into the bar. Its the staffs hostel and your not welcome. i never aproached the staff for help about panama city. They seem to hate there job. Had friends over one night for beers and they were thrown out with no reason. Dorms are like sweat boxes. Hostel that doesnt respect its customers

Fun interesting place-- huge castle turned into funky hostal with cool artwork throughout. Great place to meet interesting travelers and very socially conducive. Areas to hang out, Relic Bar downstairs which is awesome, free pancake breakfast ideal location, etc. Good wifi and very helpful and friendly staff. Not the fanciest place, but for $13 a night for a dorm bed and $30 for a private, can't complain.

Luna's has a great atmosphere and is the perfect place to stay for the short term. $13 a night gets you a nice bed (pretty large for a twin and comfy) clean showers (no hot water though) pancake breakfast and awesome amenities such as a bar downstairs, movie room, book exchnage, awesome artwork (the entire inside is basically a gallery of local artists) and just a cool place to hang out and meet people from all over the world. It is right by some of the best bars in panama city (tantalo, rana dorada, relic, mojitos sin mojitos) and in the heart of casco viejo, so everything is in walking distance. I love Luna's and I know you will too!

If you want to party with other backpackers in the "relic" bar downstairs and then pass out drunk, Lunas is great.... The free pancakes you can make yourself for breakfast are certainly great. Some of the staff are friendly. If you would like to sleep in a comfortable bed and NOT be bitten by hundreds of mosquitoes and -especially bad!- bed bugs you should maybe look for another place... Bed bugs are a nightmare, and they like finding a new home - with a bit of bad luck that's in your luggage.
The fans in the dorm room next to reception are FAR to loud, but don't seem to cool the room down at all. Upstairs dorm was slightly better.
Luna's Castle books all sorts of tours and transport for you and the girl in charge of this is very friendly. But with most things you can also book yourself without too much trouble and safe Luna's "booking deposit" or fee.
The hostel is in a nice building and designed in a very cool way - lots of art made me think that there would be interesting people to be found...

Room Tip: The fans in the dorm room next to reception are FAR to loud, but don't seem to cool the room dow...

Huge hostel with all of the usual features and a few exra such as a cinema, bar, free breakfast

I had a nice time socialising here

There are loads of space in this place to relax alone or socialise. Dorms are comfortable and clean. Staff are nice and there are lots of them on duty and it is secure

The location is amazing, in the centre of the old town you can walk to every where

Excellent hostel in great location. Very helpful friendly staff, pancakes and bananas for breakfast, big social areas with comfy sofas and views over the city.

The hostel is huge but it works. There is a bar downstairs which is open until 2am - when we checked in the receptionist warned us that the only room they had available was on the bottom floor and backed onto the bar - luckily the bar wasn't open as it was sunday so it was fine and the receptionist arranged for us to move rooms the next day no problem.

We moved here after a night in Mamallenas and are SO glad we did - it's much better,in a much nicer area and cheaper! ($30 for a private room as opposed to $33).

I immediately loved this hostel. The staff are friendly and from the area. They can get you anywhere. The atmosphere here is very open and nice--there are plenty of interesting characters here. There are plenty of spaces in which one may be social or alone. We stayed in a 12 person dorm, and then moved to a 6 person dorm with a view. Both were wonderful. The 12 person was a little warm. A personal fan would have helped. I was so happy with the cleanliness level! The cleaning staff were very kind, too. The hostel is located about 100 meters from the presidential palace, so safety is a non-issue. Taxis are abundant and inexpensive. Also, it is located in Casco Viejo, which is the new place to be in Panama City. The attached Bar Relic is extremely convenient. Loved it--great dj. Also, the best salsa club, Havana, is around the corner. I will definitely stay here every time I'm in Panama.

Room Tip: 12 person is ample, though the 6 person is a great value.
