“Graciously Helpful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2009

This was our first trip to Nicaragua and we spoke almost no Spanish. Also, our plane was scheduled to arrive in Managua after dark, 8 PM. Our plans included staying in Managua on the night we arrived, briefly touring the city the following morning, and then taking a bus to Granada in the early afternoon. Because of our lack of knowledge, we knew we would need help getting through the first few days, at least until we had our traveler’s legs. We chose Hotel La Pyramide because several of the reviews on Trip Advisor raved about how helpful the owner, Manfred Marotzke, was to them. We were not disappointed. Manfred met us at the airport, the next morning he drove us around to the sights in the city we wished to see, brought us to his favorite coyote (legal street money changer) where we bought the cordovas we needed at the official bank rate, and drove us to the bus station for the express bus to Granada, waiting to see us safely on the bus before leaving. Thanks to Manfred our first trip to Nicaragua was off to a great start.

We also stayed our last night in Nicaragua at Hotel La Pyramide. After two weeks, we were better able to get around on our own, but still Manfred was incredibly helpful. He drove us to his wife’s vegetarian restaurant where we had a delicious lunch that was well served in an elegant setting. After lunch he drove us to the central market so we could do some last minute shopping, instructed us on how to get a cab back to the hotel, and arranged for a taxi to take us to the airport at 5:30 the next morning.

Hotel La Pyramide has all the important qualities—It’s clean, quiet, well appointed and well priced, with air conditioning, plenty of hot water, a well-stocked and well-priced minibar, well located in a safe neighborhood with good restaurants nearby, and it serves a good breakfast on a lovely outdoor terrace. But its real strength is in deep knowledge and the gracious helpfulness of Manfred, its owner.

This little hotel in the heart of Managua is home away from home. Manfred and Sandra make you feel like you are part of their family and they are sincere about it. This little gem of a hotel is clean, confortable, secure and very romantic with its balcony, and its mini-bar stuffed with inexpensive items from chips to beers. I went to Managua to surprise my wife on her birthday(she had been visiting family in Managua). Manfred had me picked up at the airport by a friendly and honest chaufer and helped me throughout the process from buying roses and contracting the mariachi for the serenata for my wife the night of her birthday, to suggesting restaurants in Managua. What a wonderful place and what a wonderful bunch of smiling, warm human beings!
I will always return to La Pyramide where they treat their guests as family; where they make you feel especial, every minute you are there. Clean, secure, inexpensive, romantic, friendly and in the heart of Managua. Perfect...super perfect; a true winner!
I will return soon to la Pyramide, to my new friends!

We arrived in Managua after a long flight from the UK and really appreciated the taxi they organised that took us from the airport to the hotel.
La Pyramide was fantastic place. It was just like being at home. The rooms were spotlessly clean, spacious and each included an internet connection, TV and refrigerator.
Breakfast was included and what a fantastic choice too.
Manfred, the helpful owner, speaks Spanish English and German and made us feel like one of the family.
Would we go back again? Definitely!. In fact, we stayed a total of 5 nights, over 3 seperate occasions, during the month we were in Nicaragua.
Thank you Manfred for having such a nice hotel to come back to.

After reading the reviews I really wanted to stay at La Pryamide. It was absolutely everything all the other reviewers have already said except, there were no bugs. It is shaped like a pryamide, it is spotless, Manfred is very entertaining, loves his adopted country and does absolutely everything he can to make your stay wonderful and safe. We walked the short 10 minutes to the lovely restaurants with out any problem. Manfred drove us by the area so we would know how to do it on our own. We agree with the another review El Garabato has excellent food and the staff is fluent in English. When we decided to go to the old center of Managua Manfred drove us there and made sure we had the cordobas we needed for a taxis. We have traveled a lot and met some very helpful people, Manfred goes to the top of the list. Can't say enough good things about this wonderful place.

We read the reviews on TripAdvisor and decided to begin our trip to San Jaun del Sur with an overnight stay at La Pyrimide. The hotel was very accomodating to our late arrival, yet picked us up on time at the airport. A lovely light supper was prepared for us.
We stayed overnight again on our departure from Nicaragua, with another lovely evening meal awaiting us. The rooms are clean, cheerful and individually decorated. We recommend this hotel to anyone seeking value for their dollar.

I stay with Manfred in his "hotel with charme" every time I am in Managua for work and even the first time it felt like coming back to a place you know, to people who know you.
It´s a funky house with spotless rooms, nicely decorated, with TV and A/C, the best being the room right under the roof of the pyramid itself - with a little private balcony and furnished like a room at home might be...

Manfred (a former development worker who fell in love in Nicaragua and decided to stay) picks you up at the airport at all hours, makes sure you get what you need during your stay and has unlimited stories and anecdotes to tell. The restaurant serves excellent meals - with many of the vegetables grown on their farm outside Managua - either indoors or on their airy terrrace. The newest item is an open air yakuzzi to cool you down on hot days.

Compared to other hotels in Managua, it´s an excellent choice for a really fair price!

  • Liked — the homey feel to it; Manfred; the food; the balcony-room under the roof
  • Disliked — the noise of the aircon

If you have found this hotel, you must have a grrrrreat aura, because like attracts like. Not only does the German management exude a loving Energy, but the facility itself does as well, a tropical Oasis. The entire staff is professional yet treats you like you are "on a bed of cotton." We felt like we were the only guest, beyond our expectation. The meals were tailored to our needs, and all for such a great price....the best value in all of our stays while traveling in Centro America.

In addition, they have another restaurant nearby, that caters to vegetarians and yogis, with a huge yoga room, opening onto an enclosed lucious garden. Perfect for drifting away in your asana!
