“A convenient spot to get you out of Managua”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2013

When we arrived in Managua late at night, Henry's brother-in-law was waiting at the airport. Henry was honeymooning in Las Vegas. When we left two weeks later, Henry himself got us to the airport promptly. We had planned to stay two night on arrival but after seeing Managua, shortened it to one. Both Henry and his brother-in-law speak excellent English but the rest of the staff does not. I have some knowledge of Spanish but for some reason had much more difficulty than usual communicating with the others.

We were served a nice simple breakfast the morning after our arrival and surprisingly were offered breakfast before our departure before 6:00 AM, The rooms are plain but clean and the air conditioning is a real plus. Definitely one person only fits into the bathroom at a time and some plus sized persons might not fit at all. A great value as a way station.

Room Tip: Rooms away from the main street are much quieter

We stayed here for a night before flying out to the Corn Islands.

The hotel is clean and the staff are nice enough. Nica style breakfast and wifi is included, as is a free airport shuttle, which saves you about $15.

The room was nice and clean with a comfy bed, though had the smallest bathroom I have seen in a while... As a 175cm tall person I literally couldn't shut the bathroom door whilst sat on the toilet normally as the toilet is around 20cm from the shut door! Also no hot water, which is chilly when you have had the AC on.

Also to note, area surrounding this hotel is not safe, unlike some other areas of Managua. You can get a taxi cheaply enough through the hostel, though research where you want to go beforehand. We were advised to go to the port area and on a Monday it was really quiet and very touristy (overpriced average food), not really what we were after, though our fault for not looking it up beforehand.

We were there in july and during our stay I got sick. Dehydrated and a nasty tummy, 40c in Fever and we could not speak a Word of Spanish. We called Our Insurance Company in Norway that didn't do anything so we called the manager Henry to get help. He arranged for hotel transportation to the very best hospital in Managua and came Down to the hospital while I was treated With I.V. (fevermedicine and electrolytes). He translated for us as the hospital knew no English and we no Spanish. Henry stayed With us for 7 hours as well as the hotel driver. He also helped us With paying for the hospital as we didn't bring cash With us. While we stayed at the hotel and treating the sickness he helped us With everything we needed. I can not Express Our gratitude enough. Henry and all the other hotelemployees are outstanding persons. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to all my friends and Family. Stay here and you'll be taken very good care of! Thank you!

Firstly, dont stay too long in Managua and dont Even think about walking around at night or in some parts during day. Don carmelo is a fantastic place to spend a night after your flight to Nicaragua. The owner picks you up in the airport. I booked single room with fan but was upgraded for room with AC for free! Typical breakfast served in the morning. Got the hotels taxi driver for 2hrs to show me around Managua. He wanted 20 usd i paid 10. Could have perhaps paid Even less but he works with hotel and walked with me every where and i felt much safer with him. He only speaks spanísh and his name is foncesca. Definately recommend this place to stay and the taxi driver in Managua. However get out of Managua asap after seeing the old cathedral and sandino statue.
