I wanted to like this place. It was so convenient; seemingly clean & safe. What would appear to be a perfect accommodation with which to spend our first and last nights in Nicaragua.
On our arrival night, all went smoothly other than the group travel cluster at the front desk. However, at the conclusion of our trip, we opted to spend another night here in prelude to an early flight. The room was certainly nice, as was the pool. Food was ok. However, the problem began after hitting the sack early. Both my friend and I were fast asleep when a knock on the door awoke us around 9:00pm. I got up - in my underwear - and opened the door to a woman who appeared to be housekeeping. Her question, ?Todo bien? (Is everything ok?) Well, yes, except you just woke me out of a deep sleep. No worries, right? Back to bed.
But then I re-awoke an hour or two later to find the door to our room wide open. My friend was fast asleep in the adjacent bed, not knowing we'd had a security breach. I got up in disbelief to shut the door and take inventory. While my backpack, which held my: passport, money, creditcards, camera, etc., was near the door, it appears our intruder popped open the door, saw that the room was occupied with two sleeping men and bolted. Nothing was taken. Note: the room had a good door lock (with a plastic slider key), but someone (other than us) also had the appropriately programed key. Creepy, to say the least.
It wasn't until the next morning - after taking further inventory of our valuables and luggage - that I brought this to the attention of the front desk. "Sorry, no manager is available to hear your story."
Prior to checking out I was told by front desk staff, that the phantom manager was sorry about our experience and wanted to offer us a comp dinner at their hotel the next time we're in Managua, Nicaragua. What a lame, hollow gesture.
So, for those considering staying at this hotel, two thoughts. 1. Caveat Emptor (buyer beware). 2. Bar the door, Katie!
