“Lost Reservation”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2013

This place was recommended by a friend and it looked like a nice enough place to stay. Sadly, I did not get the chance because the hotel lost my reservation. I called the night before arriving to reserve a room and was told that they had a single fan room available and reserved it. I also sent an email where the hotel confirmed that they did indeed have a room available but when I showed up the next day I was told that they did not have a reservation for me and that they were full. Note that I am fluent in Spanish so this was not a case of my request getting lost in translation. At least front desk attendant was nice enough to let me use their wifi so I could look for another place to stay. If you reserve a room here, be careful!

Where to begin? Burnt breakfasts, two chairs for the entire 20 room complex, petite swimming pool that closes at 5 p.m., no smoking in any room, staff unhappy to tear themselves away from their laptops to answer questions. Two good things: This place responds quickly to email requests for reservations (which is how I ended up here to begin with) and when they say a $15 taxi will meet you at the airport at 2 a.m., it does. One more good thing: Tica Bus terminal two blocks away, so you can get out of town fast. Also a bad thing, though: There are lots of hotels near Tica Bus and almost all the rest are better than this dive.

Room Tip: If you smoke tobacco, there aren't any.

I reserved a night at this hotel to ensure having a place to sleep for a night of transition in Managua.

The situation was handy as it's only 10 blocks away from the King Quality bus stop.

The place is OK and clean. Everything works (the fan, the shower).

But it's true that it would not be of any luxury to replace the beds and the pillows with new ones. As I could definitely confirm they are at the end of their "lives".

So it's a good compromise for just a night of transit, but it's not the place you would feel extremely comfortable to stay longer.

Room Tip: maybe the rooms towards the swimming pool are better (to be checked).

We used this place as a staging post for the 5:00am Tika bus to San Pedro Sula. We arrived at lunch time hoping to read books and get an early night. Although there is a small pool there is not a single comfortable place to sit anywhere on the premises, just a few high chairs near the pool. The room was grim; hot and sticky. We considered unpacking our cotton sheet sleeping bags but could not be bothered as we had to get up at 4:00am. On the plus side you can see the bus station from the hotel and the meal round the corner at Comidas Sara a cheap pavement cafe, was delicious. All in all safer and more comfortable than a park bench, but don't expect better. The women who work there are friendly and try their best but the place needs a total update.

Perfect if you are coming in or out of Managua on the Tica bus as it is a 1 minute walk away. When arriving try to ignore the men outside the bus station that direct you to El felipe instead or try to put you off. The rooms are small and basic but perfect for an overnight stop and for the price- we paid $25 for a triple room.
The grounds are pretty and there is a small pool, but we did not have time to use it. You can only get internet near the reception if you're bothered about that.
Breakfast, not included, was really good, as was the coffee and it was nice to enjoy it in the garden. If you arrive for dinner, go to the Dona Pilar across the road for typical nicaraguan food and big portions.
We stayed there on our way in and out of Nicaragua.

We wanted a place that was somewhat comfortable, yet affordable for our first night and last night in Nicaragua. This place fit the bill. Our flight arrived late evening, so we arrived by taxi. Email correspondence was good and they had a room awaiting us on arrival. Great place to get water and cold beer right across the street, and pool was extremely refreshing before retiring for the evening. You will need a taxi to get to UCA bus station to travel to other places within Nicaragua. Make certain you have $C (cordobas) as the UCA min-buses do not accept other currencies. Our last day was a Sunday, but Kimberly’s restaurant (half a block away) was open and had excellent Nica food and beer specials. We needed a very early departure for the airport. The staff was very helpful, and the taxi actually arrived early. We recommend.

Room Tip: Ask for room facing the pool area.

THis hotel was such a great way to end our trip from in Nicaragua. The rooms are inexpensive, we were a family of five people and the bunkbeds were only $8 each. My girls, 9 and 6 years, were captivated by the six parrots owned by the hotel and the winding paths through the jungly garden. A large pool, very clean, nestled among the vines and mango trees was a heavenly end to a hot day in the markets. On the North corner as you exit the hotel was a female owned bar/restaurant with tables spilling onto the pavement full of happy patrons. The food here is tasty, the beer is cold and the prices are good. There were other simple restaurants nearby all very reasonably priced. Don't confuse Hotel San Felipe with Hostal San Felipe (around the corner). Although the hotel will arrange a taxi for $20 to take you to the airport, you can arrange a taxi yourself for 250 cordoba, roughly $10. This Hotel is simple, clean and safe and well located, the Duena speaks English and will tell you about good markets to visit and how much the taxiride will cost to get there. We loved this place and will stay again.
