Il Buno Gustaio is rather expensive, but a good alternative if you fancy Italian on a trip to San Salvador. Located in a converted house near the prominent hotels, the tables are on a terrace facing an attractive garden. The food is generally excellent (high marks from 6 of 7 in our party), from pastas to fish and meat dishes. Try the pasta with squid ink sauce or the grilled octopus. Beware of pricing on the specials. The wine list has a good selection from the Italian regions, but is a bit pricy. It is currently the In Place with locals, so be sure to book a reservation.

I would highly recommend that any visitors to San Salvador try Il Buon Gustaio. Great wine list, several vegetarian options on-menu, and attentive staff. A must!

Hungry for Italian? Try this charming restaurant in an upscale neighborhood of San Salvador! The restaurant is part of B&B and serves primarily Italian dishes, I had pasta with scallopers and my friend had his usual fish cooked in salt casing. I truly enjoyed my pasta, I tasted the fish and amazingly it was not salty at all. In fact, it was moist and sweet. I was told that the BB is a converted Convent? Looked at some rooms and it was beautifully done, it includes breakfast, served in the restaurant. Highly recommend it!

Attentive yet unobtrusive service adds to an experience which was highlighted by excellent Italian cuisine with a Salvadorean slant... Now also a boutique hotel, setting is in a beautiful garden. Can't go wrong with this one!
