“Historical experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2012

Going there with traditional tourist expectation is the bad approach. You should go there if you prefer history over simple visual attraction. It is not visually impressive to visit this site. However, when you understand how rare and how precious it is, you can truly be amazed. I would return anytime.

“This is UNESCO?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2012

I'm not sure what we expected, but perhaps something a bit more than this. Yes, I understand that it's the only site that shows how the "common" man lived, but.......The part we thought was the best was the doorway that the excavators left, showing the various layers of lava eruptions.

Not too visually exciting, but lots of information about pre-columbian life.

“Unesco world heritage "Pompeii of the Americas"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2012

A great, small site that is worth a visit. This site has been preserved by black ash that covered it when a volcano erupted many hundreds of years ago. The site is well kept and is easy to walk through. It is within a 10-15 minute driving distance to San Andres Mayan ruins, which is also worth visiting.

“Beautiful, a must see!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2012

Joya de Ceren is a beautiful place to visit and know about the way our ancestors lived. My partner is from France and he truly enjoyed the small museum and the archaeological site. The guides are very friendly and very knowledgeable of the history of the site. The entire place is beautiful, clean and really well preserved. It is a magical place to visit in El Salvador.
