“Jurassic Park Meets Botanical Garden”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2013

The garden is an interesting place to chill if you want to get away and sniff the roses or whatever is in bloom. The park also has iguanas and a weird-looking creature called a Cotuza. I saw one feeding underneath a grove of trees near the entrance to the park. I enjoyed everything about this park and the fees are cheap. One section reminded me of Jurassic Park and I half expected to see a Tyrannosaurus leap out in front of us. They also feature a restaurant on site and a lovely store to purchase plants. My kind of place!

“La Laguna”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2013

A revelation in the city, this cool botanical garden, otherwise known as Plan de la Laguna sits at the bottom of a volcanic crater. Take bus 44 from the center, and ask the driver to let you off at the right spot, from where it’s a 1km downhill walk to the garden.

“Urban Jungle”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2013

After driving through an industrial park just to the west of downtown San Salvador, we reached the gates of El Jardin Botanico (Botanical Garden). After the entry fee of $1, and a map ($.35) we set off in the direction the orchid collection. It was vast, but not in bloom (orchids do not bloom on schedule, at least not a human schedule) so we moved along the twisty paths, marvelling at the jungle plants that were in bloom. Giant trees, massive clumps of papyrus 20' tall, deep jungle foliage, a grove of IMMENSE bamboo, and so much more, pulled us along each trail, going from zone to zone. Don't miss the huge garden shop! It's very reasonable prices help support the Jardin, I'm headed back for a tall papyrus and some white bougainvillea.

“Nice little park”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

Not a ton to see here, but the staff are friendly and it's a nice place to walk around and get some green in your life. Attached to a nice nursery where you can purchase all kinds of plants.

“Average gardens but useful to kill time”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2013 via mobile

These gardens are located in the middle of a industrial area. It only costs a dollar to get in but elsewhere in the world a garden of this standard would be free. The giant bamboo area is worth a look but other than that I found the experience very average. Worth going if you have an afternoon to kill or if you have an interest in plants.
