We booked The Sunflower B&B hotel for our three day stay in Kiev after reading a review on the Lonely Planet website (though it is not listed in their guide to Ukraine).
This is a great B&B within three minutes walk of Independence Square and walking distance to all of central Kiev's main attractions.
The rooms are clean and spacious, well decorated, air conditioned and have loads of storage and almost everything you need including slippers, plenty of toiletries, hairdryer, safe, digital tv and free internet access - there is also a laptop you can borrow with no charge. The only thing missing is a kettle, though free drinking water is provided, and tea, coffee and cold drinks available on request.
Breakfast arrives at your room at an agreed time and was more than sufficient including tea or coffee, toast and cereal, local cake, fruit, yogurt and fruit juice.
The staff are available 24 hours, and are helpful and happy to advise on restaurants, book taxis/airport transfers etc.
Our one (minor) problem with the Sunflower was finding it - when you arrive at Kostelnaya 9 there are no signs that the B&B is anywhere close by - you need to go through the archway and across the courtyard to find the doorway, which is in what appears to be an apartment block. You would be forgiven for having concerns on arrival - the setting and exterior doesn't look good, but the rooms and service at the Sunflower are worth proceeding for, and the area in general appears quiet and safe.
