**booked hotel @40%off promotion for consecutive nt stay. Only USD$20 or so difference with some 2*/2.5* hotels.
Location: 5-8min walk from Universytet metro station. 1 block from a small supermarket "Фора". 20-30min walk to Independence Square (Maiden). A comfortable walking distance to the city center with landmarks on the way depending on route.
Public area: Lobby is not too big, but very tidy & squeaky clean. With currency exchange booth beside the reception, or you can exchange the $$ directly @the counter after hrs. **travelers with luggage will have a few steps to carry down, or you can use the help of the boys standing by
Room: The room I had was very spacious for just one person. Queen bed with the thickest & softest duvet I've ever came across in hotels. Heated floors of the bathroom was the highlight of my stay. It feels so nice waking up to warm tiles in the chilly morning, and return from a long wet day as it rains all the time in Kiev. Shower was very powerful with massage settings. House keeping does a very good job keeping things spotless.
Food: Breakfast was not included in my booking, but I decided to spoil myself and give it a shot one morning. Buffet breakfast in a boardroom with a beautiful chandelier was a great start. The typical variety of hot & cold dishes, incl. smoked salmon, assorted cheese & cold cuts, sausage, pancakes, crepes, etc. A la carte is also available ie. omelettes/crepes. Ukrainian breakfasts seem to incl. rice/barley, proteins like fish/meat, and dessert for breakfast as well. Although the breakfast didn't come cheap and I didn't stuff myself with dessert in the morning, I still thought it was money well spent for that one time. Menu @restaurant has limited choice. But I thought they were more reasonably priced than the buffet breakfast. Food was delicious, well presented, and of reasonable portion. Gazpacho is highly recommended to try.
Service: Professional staff, very proper and try their best to provide solution. Slightly friendlier than the reg. Ukrainian, but good enough for me.
Suggestion: Bring extra pair of shoes, as the hotel is located on a the lower end of a pretty steep hill. I had to tread through rapids to get back to the hotel, and my shoes were soaked. (it rained 6/7 days I was in Kiev). If you were tired, and too lazy to go out and search for food, give the restaurant/bar a try. You can always try the traditional Ukrainian borsch which comes with bread to fill you up. **try looking out for discounts on travel sites to get yourself a good deal.. a VERY good deal
