“Even on a chilly day a cool place to visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2013

You can see the Mother of Homeland statue on the bank of Dniper river from many spots of the city. Getting to her is not hard, about 15 minutes walk from Arsenalna station (passed the Lavra complex) or bus/trolleybus/marshrutka from same station or Pecherskaya.

Once you get off the bus it is a few minutes walk along the rows of vendors. The outdoor exhibits of Soviet era weaponry are pretty cool, especially if you are with someone who actually knows something about them. There are signs in Russian/Ukrainian and some in English. There is also a separate museum about the war in Afghanistan.

Several areas require their own tickets, which are pretty cheap. As far as I know there is no master pass/ticket you can buy.

One thing I found odd was the display of the two polka dot tanks in front of the main museum (Great Patriotic War - WWII part that USSR was involved in - separate TripAdvisor item and review).

If you like history, especially military, outdoor sections are worth the visit.

You CAN also climb up to the shield of the statue, through the museum, but it will cost you museum admission + 200 UAH (~$25 USD)

This statue is definetly worth seeing. Along with the awesome open-air and inhouse museum, its one of the places you must visit in Kiev.
For additional fee you can climb up this statue, seeing a magnificient landscape

“Great place to spend time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2013

Situated in a beautiful park: you have the opportunity to take a walk. Nearby the enormous statue there is also a great fountain. Amazing place to wander around, take photos or maybe have a light picnik (if your visit is during summer)
Appropriate for both families and couples.

“Views of Kiev”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2013

Beautiful location and well worth visiting. Easy walking and breathtaking views. For a modern building the toilets are surprising as they are of the old fashioned style.
