“Not worth the price”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2013

The hotel is good but not worth the price. The breakfast buffet is very poor. Firstly I got the room with twin beds though I have requested king-size. When I asked to change the room, I was said no free rooms, though Booking.com indicated they have. Only the next day, I got the right room.

Moreover the hotel has windows on the busy street and it is loud in the morning and evening.

Good location of the hotel save situation. Especially it's good idea to go by metro during huge traffic.

Stayed two nights last week at this property. Night one was ok - except the heat wasn't working. Night two was a nightmare from the very best of post-Soviet hospitality experiences. In short, if you are frequent traveller on business and are staying in Kiev I would strongly recommend avoiding this property.

I'll start with the (+) and (-)

(+) Location - in the Podol area
(+) Beds are very comfortable
(+) Rooms are clean
(+) Room service menu is good

(-) Internet is poor and unreliable (the owners probably chose a cheap option)
(-) Since the hotel is an old building, the renovations reflect the constraints of the building itself. There is only ONE elevator for the entire hotel - which one day wasn't working (see photo)
(-) The breakfast room does not have enough seats for the hotel capacity so if you show up at the wrong time, plan on meeting someone new to sit next too
(-) Bathrooms are OK but not 4-star standard - more like 3-star
(-) Room insulation is non-existent. it means you can hear everything that goes on around you - like the couple next door having loud sex; or drunken guests kicking a door for 20 mins at 3am or another guest coming back at 4am and putting on loud techno.

But perhaps the thing that most brings this hotel down is its staff. When I checked in, I was asked to pay for the room. My colleague informed the receptionist that it had been prepaid. The receptionist's reaction was immediately to say 'NO'. Then he checked again and realized that it had been paid. No sense of customer service at all.

The Bellboy was a surly old guy who couldn't smile or say hello.

This is so typical of the post-Soviet service environment. The staff need serious training. They don't receive it. Avoid like the plague.

Room Tip: Try another hotel ;)

This is a good hotel and I have stayed there before. Very clean, warm
And friendly. Wifi not to good and breakfast is average. No tea or coffee facilities in rooms, however mini bar well stocked all the time.

Avoid rooms facing the front of the hotel as the trams will keep you awake all night, the courtyard (backside of the hotel) is much better.

I wold stay again.

I have stayed at this hotel many times due to work. Its a bit overpriced but good location in kiev. Clean rooms and comfortable beds. Wireless internet connection should be improved well as the breakfast buffet. friendly staff and quick check in and check out procedures. They have good pick up service at airport

There are a couple of twelfth century structures in the neighborhood, formerly the Jewish quarter, and before that, the old downtown as a river port. Very charming in its Russian-empire-kind-of-way. What looks like work going on at the metro station is actually an archaeological dig -- the area has been inhabited 5000 years or more! Good breakfast in courtyard in comfortable weather. Attentive service. At night, go out the door and walk left, then left at the corner and cross the street past the amazing old church to the karaoke bar down at the end, Draft. Locals frequent and all is very merry.
