“Interesting, but Not a Lot to See”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2013

We had a tour that included Babi Yar and the Chernobyl Museum. It was interesting to see the Babi Yar Memorial, but I'm not sure it would be worth a special trip. We saw pictures of the site at the Great Patriotic War Museum. In the 40s this looked like a barren rock quarry. Now it has an impressive memorial, and the grounds are more like a park.

“Bring a handkerchief”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2013

If you have an imagination this is a very sad memorial. So many Jews and others were killed here in so very short a time. First they were marched down the main street until they got to the forest. This is a very long walk. The people about to be killed were placed at the edge of a ravine and shot so they fell into the ravine. There are several monuments memorializing the massacre. There is a large menorah on the actual spot and a most poignant statue of a boy, a girl and a large toy to represent the children who were killed in the massacre. Historically - very interesting. Emotionally - draining.

“"Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it."”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013

Go to this monument and remember the atrocities which happened here.

I followed the excellent directions in the review posted May 26, 2013, and had no problems finding the menorah. There is also a new chapel near the ravine. The memorial to the children, located just by the metro stop, is also very moving. The Soviet memorial across the road is huge, but as others have said it is NOT the spot where the atrocities happened.

“Historically Important”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

It's a must-see when you visit Kyiv, as an important historic event is connected with this Memorial. It is our sad past, which teaches us how not to behave in the future :)

“Big”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013

Very thought provoking! Unfortunately there is nothing in english to tell you what happened here, so, you need to read about it first. There are no signs either to help you find it. We still didn't find the menorah!
