“Good for business traveller.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2013

Good apartment hotel, very spacious. However, if you are a light sleeper, try to avoid rooms 1, 3 and 4 as they are right opposite and next to the reception and the entrance door. i was in the room 1 and could hear entrance door bell ringing and receptionist talking on the phone.

Good solid hotel which offers everything you need without any frills or bells. Nice clean rooms, comfortable beds, good strong showers, staff speak good English and were happy to help with requests, calling cabs etc. There is a bus stop in front of the main entrance and all the buses and trollybuses which stop there will take you to 50 metres from Olimpiiska metro station in 5 minutes. Hotel itself is on the fourth floor of the Ambassador's Hall building which houses other hotels, offices, restaurants etc. If you're looking for practicality and a good price, rather than luxury, then it's a good place to stay.

We had one night in Kiev before getting an overnight train to Lviv so chose this due to its proximity to the train station about 15min walk. Clean and pleasant place, functional but nothing to write home about.

The hotel is well located for access being only a 15 minute walk from the railway station. The Skybus from Borispol airport actually drops off at the rear of the station and you need to walk straight through the pedestrian concourse to the front entrance. This is a colourful experience in itself. From the front of the station you simply walk straight on down the hill to the first crossroads which is Zhylyanska Street. Turn right and walk for 10 minutes to the hotel.
The hotel occupies the 4th floor of the Diplomat Hall building, a commercial centre with shops, offices, hotels and apartments. Some reviewers have found it difficult to find but the building itself is straightforward enough (look for a big banner sign on the front elevation) and it's only the entrance that is slightly confusing. You need to go to a pair of large glazed wooden doors around the left-hand side.
Internally the hotel is fairly uninspiring in terms of public areas in that it has none. From the lift on the 4th floor you walk to an entry-controlled door and once through you're in a corridor with 20 rooms, 10 each side. The first room has been turned into a small reception area and that's basically it.
We had room 13 which was a good size, clean and functional. Accommodation-wise there was nothing we could fault. The only issue was heat. We arrived on a sunny afternoon with the sun pouring in through the balcony windows. It was stifling. Even after that, when we had 2 cloudy days, the building itself just seems to be overly warm which made for a difficult sleeping environment. The room has an air-conditioning unit which is effective if you're happy to keep it on over-night. We tended to put it on for the evening when we were out to dinner so the room cooled and then turn it off at bedtime.
Breakfast is taken in the pizza restaurant two floors below the hotel and you receive a voucher from reception each morning. A word of warning, when we checked in they had our booking down as room only. Fortunately I had our booking confirmation that clearly should breakfast to be included. They accepted this but weren't overly happy about it. Breakfast is a choice of 4 set menus, omelette, fried eggs, porridge or crepes and, although not the most inspiring we've ever had, everything is cooked beautifully.
Although the location of the hotel is great for access it's a bit tortuous for the city centre. It's probably only a 20 minute walk in reality but the fist half is fairly steeply uphill which becomes a bit of a bind after 2 or 3 days. That said, the uphill street has a great little food market on Saturdays full of locals doing their shopping.
All in all the hotel provides good quality accommodation at a reasonable price in a city where some hotels are really quite expensive.

Room Tip: Odd numbered rooms are on the back but get the afternoon sun and become very hot. Even numbers are o...
