“Boutique apartments in the city centre”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 24, 2013

The apartment hotel is located almost 3 min walking away from the main central Street. Easy to find, main entrance and external building do not look good, ex soviet union buildings. Receptionists are normally young people and they speak English quite well. This hotel has two areas located in the same building but separated. I booked a suite room with jacuzzi. Room was enough large for a suite, not very high quality furnitures but all you need was there. Room was clean and a person is coming to clean it every days. Jacuzzy was working but water was not very warm. Door to enter the biulding has a password which is safe considering we are in Kiev and until you enter your room the building does not look nice. This hotel does provide only with the room, they do not have breakfast, it's not an hotel but almost a apartamtent hotel where you book you room and that's all. If you are looking for an apartment to have your privacy close to the city centre, this is a good option. Do not expect luxury furnitures and style if you live in Europe.

Thank you for your review - we always appreciate them as it helps us improve our services. I do want to make some clarifications regarding this review, particularly about breakfast. We do indeed have breakfast services, however, to clarify we do not cook on our premises. We do have an agreement with a local, excellent cafe that caters breakfasts or any other food orders to our guests. So if you wish to have breakfast, or any other type of food in your room, we are happy to provide you with this. We offer an in-room menu with the list of food and other services and any of our staff will be pleased to take your order.

In any event, we do appreciate your business and review and we hope to see you with us in Kiev in the future!

Thank you
Arnold

First of all it is very apart, as these are several apartments in a big complex. There are no (!) telephones in the room. So if you want to talk to the reception, you call on your own roaming costs! Ridiculous! Although it was confirmed to me on the phone before that there is a 24/7 englishspeaking reception. Most of the times the receptionist was not around. And if there was a replacement, it were friendly girls, who wouldn't be able to speak english. In the case the friendly lady called him at home, and passed on the phone to me, he was utterly unpolite and not willing to help.

The one I met at the reception was then friendly but later on the phone not anymore.

They are selling the luxury suites with a whirlpool. But it seems only to be there to look at. When I arrived with a terrible backache, I thought a round in the whirlpool could relax, but after about 10cm of water, there was only ice-cold coming... So for those who enjoy just looking at a whirlpool, you will feel very well here.

I booked the hotel by a internetportal. At this time I handed in a service request, which nobody in the hotel would even mention or take care of. At the end no surprise.

The rooms are nice though, but we were missing many things. The kitchen is set up as a fake. All will work I guess, but the tools you get are not enough to prepare a simple meal. On one side next to the bed, there is nothing to even put a book on. The TV-box was having problem with the encryption card. And so on. So think well about this apartment... eh apart-hotel. You probably will not get, what they are advertising.

On my request to speak to the manager called Arnold they feedbacked to me, that he would get in touch with me on the same day. Of course I never heard something from him, nor we met at the hotel.

Room Tip: You may look around for an alternative hotel.

Arnold S, General Manager at Theatre Boutique Apart-Hotel, responded to this review, November 29, 2013
Thank you for your feedback - appreciate it from all of our guests be it good or bad as it helps us improve our future services. However, there are a number of inaccuracies in the provided review which I would like to comment on, as I was personally involved in dealing with the individual who left this review. For sake of simplicity, I will comment on each point one by one below:

1. "No phones in the room" complaint - we are an apart hotel - i.e we provide ultra high quality accommodation, on part with any 4-5 star hotel in Kiev, yet we occupy 3 floors out of 5 in a residential building. Due to this, there are certain aspects of a 'traditional hotel' which are missing. Those things may be a restaurant / cafeteria, but they also include an in-room phone. For 99.9% of our clients, this item is not an issue as virtually all travelers currently have mobile phones. For the clients, that do have an issue with this, and do not wish to use their local 'roaming' phones, our front desk reception is happy to provide you with FREE local sim card with small amount of credit on it for you to call us with any requests. Again, this si provided 100% FREE of charge for anyone that asks. This specific client never asked for it, and unfortunately had to use roaming when making calls to reception. In addition, another alternative was to call us and ask us to call back, which we are happy to do immediately, this also would have resulted in no roaming fees of any sort.

2. In regards to 24 hour English speaking reception - we do in fact have 24 hour staffed reception. Our general managers speak 100% fluent English. The comment that 'reception' had to call our manager's home is rather silly - the reception manager, not knowing guest's requested location (see further below), called our 'General Manager' who was at the time helping another guest, in their room. Instead of walking out, he assisted him over the phone from the guest's room - not from his home of course. Given that the general manager was me (person writing the review), I can also unequivocally state that the guest was assisted in 100% polite and professional manner and in fact it was the guest that was rude and a number of times hung up the phone, only to call back moments later.

3. In regards to 'booking on internet portal and not receiving service request' - no service request of any sort was received. This may have been a result of the guest not actually including it, or possibly the booking source not providing it to us. I can assure all of our guests, no matter how small or little our guest's requests are, we do take care of them - in fact, we pride ourselves on attention to details. I would in this instance, ask the guest to mention what was in the service request that they did not receive, instead of the vague information provided.

4. I would also like to comment on the guest's request. Without giving out specifics, the guest asked us to look up an address of a certain embassy. When told by reception that the embassy has 2 different locations, the guest started screaming and yelling at the receptionist saying that it is 'our job' to know which address he needs. Their claim was that because we are local, we are to know which location he needs. The maximum that our concierge can do is look up and address, however they can not determine which one of the 2 addresses the client needs if the requested establishment has 2 locations.

5. In regards to 'missing items' in the rooms. Our kitchens are stocked with virtually everything one may require to prepare a meal. It includes all basic cooking utensils, eating utensils, cups, glasses, etc. At no point, did the guest voice a request that something was missing. We are always happy to add any item to the kitchen, even if it's something fairly specific to satisfy our guests. However, once again we can't do this without knowing about it.

6. In regards to 'nothing to put a book on' - all of our rooms contain bedside drawers which house bedside lamps. This is also clearly visible from the photos of our rooms. I have no idea why the guest did not see this.

7. In regards to requesting to speak to director- this request was never mentioned to our receptionist. Our director is always happy to meet with any guest that requests to do so to assure that they are satisfied with their stay, however, this request was never received unfortunately, although this may have happened due to miscommunication from our side.

In any event, we always invite our clients to provide us with our feedback, so we can remedy the situation. If there is ever a situation we can not remedy for any reason, we always provide either retro rated discount or include free additions such as free Airport transfers, etc. Either way, I am sorry to hear that this guest did not enjoy their stay as much as they planned but I certainly invite them to return back to us and we will do everything within our ability to assure their following stay will be excellent. We will also use the provided feedback to further improve our services.

Kind Regards
Arnold

Be aware: Though they call it HOTEL, this is not a hotel! These are apartments. The different rooms are in different flats and stairways in the backyard of a residential building. The building and stairways are in a very por condition. There is no reception and it is almost imposible to find the room (I had to phone the "hotel" to find somebody to pick me up). My room was rennovated and clean, but there a strong smell of bleach liquid. TV is only in Ukraine language, so it is impossible to watch TV. I cannot recommend this apartment if you look for a decent hotel! But very good location!

Thank you for your feedback. We always appreciate it and use it to improve our services. I would like to point out some inaccuracies in the given reviews and go through them one by one:

1. We are in fact an 'apart-hotel' and in fact this is part of our name, so we do not disguise the fact that we are not a traditional hotel. However, having said that - we do function just like a real hotel; and offer 11 luxury suites, located in the same building, in the very prime center of Kiev. We also do offer 24 hour reception and it is not clear why this was not seen. We also feature a total of 5 signs, so it is easy for our guests to find us, however, because we are in the courtyard - many guests do choose to call us first, so our manager can meet them at the entrance and show them directly to their room, and assist them with their luggage.

2. Regarding the TV - we feature a package with 120+ channels, which include CNN, BBC, Discovery, Fox, amongst others. These channels can be switched on the remote into English mode, even though by default they are set to Russian / Ukrainian. If a guest is unable to switch the language by locating the button, they are welcome to ask our manager to assist them and I would invite the guest that left the review to next time do the same.

Either way, as mentioned we appreciate your feedback and we'll continue to use it to further improve our services.

Kind Regards,
Arnold

First of all ,the location of the hotel is perfect just 2 minutes walk to main kreschatik street. The room is clean and comfortoble. The staff is friendly and they are trying to do best they can to help you during your visit. There is only one bad thing; the entrance of the apartment which very awfull like other apartments in Kiev. Additionally, there is no elevator and the rooms are located in the third floor therefore I did not recommend luxury studio rooms for older people.

Room Tip: Luxury studio is perfect for young couples.

We arrived in the evening when there was a power outtage and we had absolutely no idea where the entrance was. We ended up having to call the hotel to find out that the reception was on the 2nd floor of a nearby building. The person on the phone was friendly, but a few signs would've been better. The appartment itself was on the 5th floor, and the elevator didn't look very safe so everytime we went out, we had to walk the stairs. There was nothing wrong with the appartment itself, It was clean and we had fresh towels every day.

Terrible outside, perfect inside, though the whole access can be a bit confusing. But once inside: perfect & helpful staff, "nouveau" antique decoration & clean! Well located in the centre of Kiew. Will book again!

I liked this hotel because of really friendly and helpful staff, for comfortable room, large bad, big windows, wide windowsills and perfect location.
It was a little bit noisy when the window was open but it didn't disturb us. There are a lot of shops and sightseeings nearby.
