“Must See Open-Air Museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

This wonderful open-air museum is not too far from Kiev city center, though, while approaching it you feel that you are migrating to a different world. The place is big and needs several hours to be covered by foot. Once inside, you feel yourself immersed in green landscape isolating you from the hustle of Kiev. More importantly, numerous houses, churches, schools and farms, clustered according to regions, depict the diverse architecture of Ukraine and tell you how people in this country have lived in harmony with nature generation after generation. I recommend you to hire a guide if available.

“Wonderful attraction”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2012

I used to go to Pirogovo with my family when I was a child. This past summer, I had the opportunity to spend time in this wonderful open-air museum with my daughter, who loved it just as much as I loved it when I was a child. Not only is it a great place to look at the history of Ukrainian architecture, but it's also a way to get away from the hustle of Kiev's city streets while still enveloping yourself in Ukrainian culture. You will not find a better place in or around Kiev to buy very inexpensive, authentic Ukrainian souvenirs. Highly recommended.

“Authentic village museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2012

Great (and territorially) ethnic museum. Contain many authentic buildings from many regions of Ukraine and many times. Buildings its original. Not replicas! Sometimes in Pirogovo provides ethnoc fests and holidays.

“Really nice outdoor museum, even in off-season.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2012

We had a few hours to spend on a recent trip to Kiev and decided to visit Pyrohovo. This was November and it was cold, but not raining. It was a last-minute decision and we just took a taxi from the hotel. This is similar to Sturbridge Village in MA or Williamsburg in VA, but on a less intense scale. The staff is nice, but only a few speak English - mostly Ukrainian and Russian - but that's to be expected. It's a beautiful and interesting walk - we did it in 2 hours, but this was an off time with almost no visitors. I would have liked to have a guide book in English, but I didn't see one when we where there. Admission is only about $4USD. Expect to take a lot longer in summer and during peak holidays. There are numerous tour groups, but if you want to do this on your own I'd strongly recommend a taxi instead of the Metro and a bus (which is possible according to the travel guides). The taxi is about $40USD round trip from Kiev Center and you can arrange with your driver for them to either wait or come back and pick you up. We did this on a spur-of-the-moment basis and it was no problem at all.

“A trip back in time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

See what the Ukraine was like 75 to 100 years ago. Interesting site but not much in the way of washroom facilities other than in the concession area and they are not the best.
