“Great choice for Kiev hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

We found ourselves in Kiev due to an error with our Russian visa requiring us to make an unexpected stopover for 4 days. We chose this hotel based on reviews and the Intercontinental's reputation, but also the location which is excellent - walkable and close to many of the major attractions and directly next to St. Michael's cathedral. Khreshchatyk Street is less than a very enjoyable 10 minute walk away as there is so much to see enroute and is full of the charms of Kiev - the people! The rooms are very nicely appointed with beautiful linens although a fairly firm mattress, an extensive pillow selection menu, and a complimentary mini bar with sparkling and still water, juices and soft drinks. We stayed on the club floor which gave us access to the lounge serving an wide variety of buffet food but also anything you wanted to order from the menu for breakfast. there were also snacks available through the afternoon which we never experienced but made it each evening for their cocktails and a light dinner buffet service which could easily (and was for us) be dinner for the evening. Desserts were delicious! Based on this food, I would say the restaurants would have to be excellent as well. The only way to make it better would be to have some heat lamps over the food as the lamps used were only for lighting which made it look nice but did not keep it hot. The morning and evening club floor agents were delightful, helpful and very kind young ladies always willing to do anything they could to make your experience great. We also used the spa and it too was very good although when we were paying at the end, we were told that we could not add our tip onto our bill which was being charged to our room and as we had no cash with us, we had to go back to the room to get it and bring it back. If this is the hotel policy, then they should advise you ahead of time and if it is not policy and the staff don't want their tips tracked....then management should know and I suppose now they will. We had no problem getting a taxi from the airport as the drivers hover around trying to pick up a fare and our cost was 300 UAH which was a bit over priced we think as the concierge at the hotel said it should be about 270 UAH which I'm sure is still overpriced! the trip was about 30 minutes. We walked almost everywhere - including past the Fairmont where we almost stayed and so glad we didn't as there is major construction directly across the street from it which seems will be a major overpass unfortunately. Would definitely recommend!

Stayed at the Intercontinental Kiev for 3 nights. Perfect location, perfect facilities and perfect service. The best breakfast I ever had, very good food in room service and what an amazing nightbar on their last floor. Service 10 out of 10.

Spa area was a bit too small but the massage was very good and relaxing - would highly recommend to have some fresh drinks here! Not only tea, coffee and water.

Really nothing negative to mention, i will surely come back and recommend this great hotel to all my friends.

David

In the interests of disclosure, this was a reward night.

The hotel is a decent new build property in the heart of Kiev. Located conveniently close to the main churches - St Andrews and St Sophia. The property is as you would expect for an InterContinental - large rooms, comfortable bed, separate shower/bath (unlike the InterContinental Barclay NYC). The minibar (soft drinks only) was free as was the wifi, but this may have been a Priority Rewards thing.

The only issue we had was due to the 2 nights we had booked being done separately and not linked. At check-in we requested that these were put together and we were assured this had happened and wouldn't need to come back to the desk. Despite this the key cards didn't work on our return the second day and we had to head back downstairs to get them reset. This was quickly done by the manager who had assured us we wouldn't have to do this the previous day.

Room Tip: The property is laid out in a triangle, with an inner courtyard. Rooms looking in are very dark and...

I was at the Kyiv Intercontinental for three weeks in April and left convinced that it is one of the very best. Clean, well-maintained and comfortable rooms; free non-alcoholic room bar; excellent breakfast with on-duty chef; but most of all -- an absolutely superb staff throughout the hotel that is friendly, responsive and always positive. I will definitely be back.

Intercontinental is a very good hotel chain. They treat their customers with respect and value them. The rooms are very clean and even provide a free non alcoholic minibar. The Gym, the spa the lobby were all top notch. The central location of this hotel does not disappoint either. And if you choose the breakfast package. You will not be disappointed either, one of the best breakfast buffet.
