“Wonderful Atmosphere!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2013

This restaurant is located in Taras Schevshenko Park across for the Univerisity. It is a delightful rendition of an old time Ukaraine farmhouse. The decor is quite charming and the wait staff friendly. There is a slight language problem, but you can make yourself unerstood. The menu is large and is in Ukrainaian and English. There are also helpful pictures. The mushroom soup was served inn a bread bow (with a top!) and was delicious. WE shared roasted vegetables and a large very freish salad as both were large enought to share. The pork shin was very flavorful and tasty as was the split chicken. There was more than enough food for both of us. The Ukrainain dark beer was cold and excellent! There was a wedding party on the patio which made our visit even more eventful. Wonderful place -we went there for lunch and did not need dinner!

“In a park, great setting, good Ukrainian food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013

This large restaurant is in the middle of a very active park with strollers and kids all over the place. It is great fun. The patio is really an extension of the restaurant with comfortable seating and nice appointments.

The menu like many Ukrainian restaurants is large - 32 pages. Lots of traditional food but some surprises. We had goose confit and duck on fire. Both were excellent in berry coulis. The goose was perfect and came with apples and cherries. The duck flamed with vodka had orange and apples with various berries in the sauce.

The borsch was good as was the mixed charcuterie of mixed fish and pickled vegetables.

The wine list was a cut above with many good Georgian selections. A note however about Ukrainian wait staff. They have no training on wine selection or service. Temperature is hit and miss and ice buckets have to generally be requested.

Desserts were great; a strawberries soup with velvety smooth ice cream and raspberry verenikies with custard and wild berries. Both were exceptional.

“Delightful dining”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013

This is good Ukranian food served in a traditionally decorated restaurant. It is close to the Universitet Metro stop, on the side of a well-maintained park. You'll need to make reservations if you want to sit on the patio during warm months, but the food tastes good anywhere. They have some interesting fish dishes, great pumpkin soup, and a delicious set of salads. It is pricier than many Kiev restaurants, but two can eat well, and have drinks, for $65 US. We went there on our last night in Kiev and it was a wonderful way to end the trip.

“delicious food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2013

i rather enjoyed the design and decor of the place. at one point there was even live music playing. the staff were extremely friendly and helpful.
shared some starters (sorry, i don't remember the names of the dishes..) including a veal liver and mushrooms in sauce; a pickled plate of pickles, mushrooms, fish and i think cucumber; and cold soup (not sure exactly what was in it but my companion called it a salad in soup form and a favorite during summer time). they were all delicious. waiter suggested a shot of vodka to go with the pickled plate. he was right, it went quite well and was nice and smooth.
main course was goose leg with caramelized apples and a cherry sauce. first time i'd ever seen goose on the menu so had to try it. it was quite tasty.
finished the night with varenyky filled with cherries. amazing!
also had a glass of the kvas there. was okay, but i preferred the one i had the day before in Rivne as that was a white-ish colored one with strong taste of honey. this one was brown and apparently more common.
price was higher than i expected but then remembered i was now in kiev and not rivne anymore

“Quality and tranquility”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2013

Broad menu with most of the Ukrainian specialties. Waiter helpful in navigating menu choices. Best grilled Salmon on the trip. Reasonable prices. Pleasant semi enclosed terrace. Still serving new customers at 10pm.
