Stayed at the Opera hotel for 3 nights in March. A rather small hotel, 7 storeys high. Ask for high floor room, front side.
-Location. Very good, near a main avenue, 15 min walk to the city center, the University and old town. Royal palace, Senate, Atheneul opera, also on 10 min walk. Area is quite safe. In the back of the block there is a nice park for walk. Not much traffic in front of the hotel, no noise.
-Rooms. Average size. Furniture and decor detailed to an artitistic atmosphere. Very quiet rooms. Air conditioned. Bathroom with shower average size, adequately supplied. Cleanliness is standard in all aspects.
-Staff. Accomodating reception, giving instructions for visit to attractions, tours. Breakfast servants quite obliging.
-Breakfast. Good selection average variety, few cheeses and ham, yogourt, fruits, flakes, cereals etc. 4 choices of bread. Breakfast room small but also with detailed artistic atmosphere.
-Small TV with satelite channels in many languages.
Taxi to airport very easy for the personel to call. Costs about €5 (=25 RON), don't bargain for a fare, just pay the taximeter. True the hotel has its own limousine and charges very high, I was not at all pressured to use it, only a note in the reception desk stating clearly the price €45.
Very nice hotel, giving the impression of coziness and caring. Stars 3+. Would definitely stay again. Reccomended for €100.
I think most of the reviews on here have this place nailed. Great location right near most of the sights and the rooms are quite nice as is the decor.
The staff i suppose were a bit hit and miss although my usual standards had already been lowered after week of Romanian customer service. Checking in was done without any dialogue as the receptionist was chatting on the phone and the bell person whilst friendly could come across as a bit pushy in eagerness to get you to use their services.
talking of services , they try hard to push you on to their airport transfer service at a whopping 40 euros !!!!! i called a cab and got there for 5 euros!!!!
all in all id rather have stayed in the hostel i used earlier in the week and saved the cash so i suppose that sums it up
Good location, nice building. Rooms are clean and very nice.
The hotel is very good, but the the people are not very helpful and some money disappeared form the room while we were taking breakfast.
So the accomodation is very good, the hotel is very good, just you should not wait for good care from the hotel people and watch after your valuables.
Nice hotel, no complaints whatsoever, except when going back to the airport.
On arrival we had paid 40 LEI for the taxi ride to the hotel. When leaving, the hotel arranged our tranfer to the airport for 60 (currency). On arrival at the airport, the driver insisted on collecting 60 EURO!
The hotel (Mr. Hampu) confirmed, however, there was no currency confusion, the rate of 60 EURO - five times the normal taxi fare - conforms to the hotel's "official policy". Admittedly, the hotel's receptionist "had not been very clear", according to Mr. Hampu.
In our part of the world, providing a customer service at five times the normal price is "usury". We feel cheated.
