“Exclusive luxury in the middle of Bucharest”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2012

This is a recently renovated period hotel, the atmosphere is very elegant and classy. Not the cold minimalist 5-star style. We stayed here over our wedding weekend and it was the perfect choice. Hotel spa (Eden Spa) has great facilities and treatments. Lovely furniture; clean, spacious rooms; prompt room service. A great option if your looking for a bit of Bucharest's old world charm.

Room Tip: Deluxe rooms have lovely white furniture.

As mentioned by other reviewers, this hotel is clean and freshly decorated but in a period style. In contrast with the Novotel opposite, and the Radisson Blu up the road, which are big, aggressively modern and corporate hotels, the Grand Continental is more modest in size and, for my money, more classy. Staff are efficient and helpful, and the whole place is a restful and well-organised, in a great central location. I'd definitely go back.

I've stayed in this hotel (and reviewed it) before, and we stayed here again on 2 seperate weekends in January 2012. The hotel is trying to do something a bit different - mixing modern convenience with some of the interbellum charm that Bucharest once had. The mixture may not be to everyone's taste, but at least its different. While locals recommend the Radisson Blu nearby, I find this place better value and it has an individuality that the larger chains don't possess. The staff are charming - we were upgraded to a luxury room as the hotel was so empty. A great location, it really should be more popular than it is, especially as rooms are reasonably priced at c.110 euros per night. The only minor quibble is that the modern sink is too shallow to be able to wet shave or fill the kettle with any ease, but that is hardly a major problem. Thoroughly recommended.

Room Tip: Check the website for prices. You might get an upgrade if they are quiet - only 7 of the 69 rooms we...

This is a traditional and beautiful hotel in the heart of the city. It is first class from the bedding and bathroom amenities to the lobby and location. It is central to major sites and close to the hop-on-hop-off bus tour. Bucharest is a city that is huge in scope and this small, luxurious, and personal hotel is an oasis in this bustling metropolis. Of course, the amenities and other room touches are understated and lovely, The buffet breakfast was plentiful and varied. And the prices reflect the fact this is eastern Europe.

This is a really superb boutique hotel in a prime position in this city which is trying hard to restore itself to something of its' former glory. It actually is a masterstroke in interior design given its' situation and during my stay it was the hotel which helped to lift my spirits after being out and about surrounded by graffitti and shabby former communist buildings.
The furnishings and fittings are stylish (OK you probably wouldn't have them at home, but a change is as good as a rest) and comfortable. The staff are friendly and extremely obliging and the bar and bistro (where a good buffet breakfast is served) are great. There is a feeling of being very welcome and very well looked after and I look forward to returning next year.

A lovely big room (actually very big room) well decorated, clean and well presented. Staff really helpful , there when you need them but not all over you. Our room looked out onto the reconstructed foyer of the original National theatre which is now part/attached to very modern looking Novotel - strange but sorta nice. Only carp would be that breakfast plates are small designed more for show than usage but this is extremely minor. All in all I would highly recommend this hotel .

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
"Grand elegance is back in Bucharest." At Grand Hotel Continental you will rediscover the old dimension of luxury in the hospitality. Architectural refinement details and exceptional services are dedicated to the elite clientele. We have restored the atmosphere of XIXth century, we have added the XXI-century technology and we have customized all services to create a unique and memorable experience for each guest. The Grand Hotel Continental is located on Calea Victoriei, a place full of history, the center of Bucharest high life since the 1800s. The building was built in 1886 by the plans of two known architects Mr. Enil Ritten Forster and I.I. Rasnovanu in German Renaissance style. It was first called "Otelul" and it was built where the old "Broft Hotel" (property of the businessman Menahem Elias) was before. Half a century later it took the Grand Hotel Continental name. The building has passed through a recent restoration, preserving the same classic structure and details. ... more   less
