“Excellent Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2011

We had a wonderful stay at the Jagerhorn. The apartment rooms are spacious and very comfortable. The location can't be beat and the staff are the friendliest anywhere. Would highly recommend!!!

I chose this hotel based on the reviews, as I was seeking somewhere central, relatively quiet and not overly expensive but still OK. I was not disappointed. Firstly, it is very easy to get to from the airport (airport bus to coach station, tram ticket for 8 kn from the magazine and sweet kiosk outside the station and then the no 6 tram going under the bridge to the main square - 5 stops). Secondly, there are actually not many hotels in the centre of Zagreb and this has to be one of the best positioned; in the centre but set back in a way that you don´t hear any noise. No distance at all from the main sights of Zagreb and, indeed, the steps that lead up behind the fountain on the café terrace, bring you out in the old town, by the top of the funicular, and close to where there are some of the best views of Zagreb.

Room was comfortable, bathroom was clean although a degree of patience was needed for the hot water to arrive. Contrary to other reviews, I only had 6 or so channels on my TV, however, the Croatian channels were broadcasting in original language with subtitles, so I was able to watch television and learn a little Croatian at the same time. Breakfast is relatively basic but fine and drinks were available at the bar at other times. Reception is staffed 24 hours and all the team seem very friendly and polite and can speak English.

I adored Zagreb, this hotel is also convenient for getting to the bus station and train station for exploring further afield. Highly recommended.

The Jagerhorn is in a great location near the main square. The hotel was perfectly comfortable if not fancy. It was better than a couple of hotels I stayed at that had the same or better ratings. The people at the hotel were extremely friendly and helpful. It was excellent value for the money compared to the other hotels I stayed at in Croatia.

Excellent hotel in right in the middle of the town. It just re-opened after a huge renovation and the place is absolutely sparkling and brand new. It has a nice artificial waterfall with some turtles in the outside bar, and it provides a very soothing backdrop to the place, feels almost rural right amongst the bustle of Zagreb.

If you are driving there - good luck with traffic and Zagreb one-way systems - park a couple of streets away and walk over to check in - the hotel's free parking is actually a couple of blocks away.

Amazingly helpful staff - nothing was too much trouble.

There can be few more convenient Hotels / Guest Houses in Zagreb than the Jagerhorn. It’s a perfectly functional place to stay, with bigger rooms than you’ll find in many City Hotels in this price range – let alone in such a prime location.

I’d say it is ideal for those relying on Public transport, as the main square, with a network of interconnecting tram lines, is a short walk away down the main shopping street – with no traffic apart from trams to contend with. From there you can get a choice of trams to the railway station (and vice versa), and the number 6 tram also goes to the coach station where the airport shuttles depart / arrive. You are then close to the main market , the upper town and the cathedral to the north, and the lower town with a pleasant park to the south.

There is an excellent Zagreb website that gives the fine details of finding the Jagerhorn (especially useful if you are driving). And using the airport shuttle.

It’s also a pleasant walk to the Railway Station – e.g. if you are planning a side-trip to Ljubljana (very inexpensive), and the Jagerhorn is a block away from the funicular that goes up to the upper town – although it’s also a pleasant walk to get there via the main square, past the market or cathedral.

The Jagerhorn staff are excellent, with perfect English spoken. The breakfast is a cold buffet affair similar to that you’ll see in many European cities – but as the Jagerhorn also has a coffee shop the local coffee served is excellent.

There are 30 or so TV channels – unfortunately only CNN rather than the BBC, who were seeming to repeat the same stories hour after hour, day after day, but there are also a few other English channels – FoxLife, Eurosport and a couple of wildlife channels to choose from.

The wireless internet worked well for me – good speed and reliable connection. The only issue was the room was on the top floor, so part of it had an angled ceiling due to the slope of the roof.

There was a good choice of pillows and the bed was fine if you like them firm. There was no traffic noise – the only sounds were the dawn chorus and the local church bells.

All in all it was a very pleasant stay in a very nice city – Croatia is still a well kept secret for many, and others haven’t checked out the area away from the coast, but Zagreb is well worth a visit.

I was very impressed with the location and service at Jaegerhorn. The rooms were a little "rough around the edges" but very good value for money and clean. Very cosy.

Nice rooms that were surprisingly spacious, very clean, a nice breakfast area, and extremely friendly staff. Exactly what you need while traveling Europe, I certainly recommend it!
