My wife and I spent two nights here on a week-long holiday in Croatia. We felt that two days were enough to see the Zagreb’s highlights, although we would be very happy to return.
Hotel Dubrovnik is in the city center, which makes it a terrific base for visiting Zagreb. Arrival after our trans-Atlantic flight was pretty simple. We took the bus from the airport to the station in the city, and from there the taxi was both quick and reasonably priced. We could have saved a bit more by taking Tram 6 from the bus station to Trg Jelacic, but luggage and travel fatigue made the cab worth the modest cost. The drive had to drop us about 20 meters from the main entrance, which is located on a pedestrian street.
The receptionist checked us in quickly, and we went right upstairs. We found a small room that was appropriately equipped for a hotel of this class. The twin beds were a bit soft for my taste, but high quality sheets and a sound insulated window assured good rest. The hotel offered free wi-fi, with password provided at check in.
The bathroom was absolutely clean. Provided toiletries were limited to a refillable bottle of liquid soap or shower gel attached to the bath wall. The shower’s water pressure was astonishingly high, so beware the overspray. Towels were adequate, but a bit small and rough for a hotel of this class.
Breakfast was served in the hotel’s ground-floor restaurant. The buffet included standard offerings: scrambled eggs, sausage and bacon, cold cuts and cheeses, pastries, canned fruit, assorted cereals, yogurt, coffee, teas, and juices. We were well fed to start the day.
The receptionist offered a map and made a few helpful notations when we asked about sights and dining in the area. The hotel is well located for walking to virtually all of Zagreb’s must-see attractions, and we made a couple of quick stops back in our room to drop off purchases or pick up items that we’d forgotten to take with us without going out of our way.
On departure, we did take the tram back to the bus station, which is fifth stop on Line 6. We were perfectly satisfied with our stay at the Dubrovnik, and we will be happy to return on a future visit to Zagreb.
