“Fantastic 5-star hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2013

This hotel was amazing, easily a 5-star stay with a much lower price. It was comfortable and quiet for its downtown location. We only stayed one night and didn't do much sight-seeing (early morning flight) but it looks close to the city center and a suprisingly efficient light rail system. We ate at the hotel Bistro and the food was phenomenal. Our room was large with a palatial bathroom and open tub, which was fun. I would definitely stay here again!

We stayed recently at the Esplanade, a very nice and well placed hotel. We relied on the concierge for some travel help (going to Split) and were given the worst info. Looking back on it I really feel as if it were done on purpose. I have nothing bad to report about the hotel as it was clean, comfortable and well placed (a bit $$$) but this fellow at the desk was the pits. I think his name was Thomas or Thomason, claimed to have 30 years service with the Esplanade. Travelers beware!

Stayed twice. Once in beginning when we had not so good rooms ( small dark and faced interior)
But enjoyed the patio, health club and lounge areas. Second time on way home we had great rooms with views over esplanade and very roomy. The check in folks are great. The concierge can get a bit blustery... Still probably the best place to stay in Zagreb. Fitness center is pretty good by Croatian standards. They even have a power plate, which they guard carefully. Would go back. There is an underground mall nearby which has a grocery store- you would never know unless you asked. Wifi worksin front rooms, not so good in the inside rooms.
GREAT BREAKFAST!

Room Tip: get a larger room facing the esplanade

We liked the Esplanade a lot. Nice furniture everywhere. Helpful staff.
We had a room at the road side, but the noice level was okay.
The hotel is a big square, with a ballroom in the courtyard.
If you have a room there, ask for a higher floor.
There's a gym and a Spa.
You can walk in 10 minuten to the old town.

Beautiful old school hotel in the middle of Zagreb. Costly compared to other hotels but very nice with superb restaurant.

Service is excellent.

No complaints. Quality cost money and thats how it is if you the extra good stuff.

After traveling for over 17 hours and having our baggage missing the connection in Frankfurt, the relaxing and professional reception of the staff at the Regent Esplanade was a wonderful welcome. The hotel arranged for a car to pick us up from the airport, stress-free way to travel to the hotel. The hotel is gorgeous, was an old (renovated) hotel built for the original Orient Express train station just a short walk away. We had a beautiful room on the 5th floor overlooking the park. The tram was a short walk away, and you can pretty much everywhere within 10 minutes or so. Highly recommended hotel for the great city of Zagreb.

Zagreb is a pocket-sized version of Vienna and Budapest and the Esplanade has an air of Imperial splendour. Beautiful rooms - get a Deluxe, which is the size of a junior suite - impeccable service, great breakfasts in the Zinfandel restaurant, where you can also eat really good food in the evening and drink great Croatian wine, albeit at premium prices. Have a cocktail in the bar beforehand, however - half the cost of the equivalent in London. The Esplanade really is a classy hotel and Zagreb well worth a three night trip.
