Well, i needed a hotel near the train station, that's why i chose Hotel Aris for a one night stay and i didn't regret it. I booked a superior room for one night for some 40 euros and i found it pretty splendid for that. The hotel is located about 10 minutes by foot from the main station (tracks to hotel) and you will have to go through an underground crossing to reach the hotel or the train station. So, yes, it's probably the nearest hotel you will find around the train and bus station, but it's still a small walk and the area around the hotel is fishy at best (at night especially). The hotel doesn't look that good from the outside, too, but inside it has a warm spot. The receptionist, not too talky at first, proved to be a real sweetheart, helping me out with some writing in Cyrillic that helped me a lot getting my train ticket at the station.
The superior room was pretty good. While the interiors looked slightly dated and the room had a smell of cold smoke (probably a smoker room before), it was spacious, clean and sufficiently equipped. It had a TV, a (hard) sofa with a small table, a small desk with a chair, a wardrobe and of course a big bed. The bed was okay to sleep on, not really high quality, but nothing that gives you back pain. But it was a bit on the hard side.
The bathroom was also clean, with a big bathtub (though you couldn't take a bath, since there was no leakage stopper), a hair dryer and some amenities for showering. Well, all in all, everything was there, that you would expect from a three star hotel. Though i must add that i flooded the bathroom when i took a shower, since there was no cover that prevented the water to splash outside the bathtub.
The room also had a small balcony, but i didn't use it. I had a pretty good sleep at night, the bed, as i said, was okay and there was almost no noise from outside, though the walls and doors in the hotel were a bit thin and you could hear a bit from your neighbours here and there.
The breakfast was minimal, though. But this seems to be standard in Bulgaria, so don't expect better breakfast anywhere else ! Really !
If you want to eat something in the evening, 3 minutes away is a great restaurant called "Kashtite", which looks a bit touristy from outside, which it is btw, but which is also frequently visited by locals and which serves really good food ! Highly recommended !
Verdict: The hotels location is great if you need a place near the train station or central bus station. There is a good restaurant around the corner and the rooms are pretty good, while not luxurious. The staff is nice, once you have broken the ice and they provide adequate breakfast for a good price. Recommended !
