“Interesting!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2012

A very unique hotel in the middle of Sofia. It has a great piano bar and also a night club as well as a casino (though I was refused entry for wearing my kilt!).

Nice enough hotel by Eastern European standards, with at least a few things to keep you occupied at night if you don't wish to wander around Sofia at night.

An old-style concrete monolith from the Communist era but clean and well kept and run. Generally dark interior decor, with modest breakfast. Plenty facilities including leisure centre, casino and bars/cafe/restaurants. Overall well run and still good value at an advertised price of 70 Euro per night.

Contrary to some previous reviews I found this hotel more than acceptable.
Multi story large ex-Soviet block but helpful staff and clean room. I had been allocated a "de-luxe" twin for single occupancy and found many four star amenities, mini-bar, good size en-suite bathroom etc.
Large buffet breakfast of adequate items with large multi place tables.

2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2011

So, I was on a trip with friends to Sofia to watch football. I wanted a cheap hotel, somewhere with a roof and a bed - and that is just about all I got.

A four star hotel in name, but in the 21st century and perhaps in Western Europe Rodina Hotel would be a two star hotel. The mattresses were so soft with springs sticking out that is felt many a decade since they were in need of replacement. The curtains, carpet and decor could have been straight out of a 1970s Michael Caine movie; old, drink stained and stubbed out cigarettes - it was in need of refurbishment.

Is there anything positive to say? Yes! The minibar is the cheapest of any hotel I've every stayed in. 20p for a soft drink, 30p for snacks. Bargain! The manager of the fitness center in the basement was a knowledgable, good, helpful bloke. The pool itself is fine, the gym equipment, like the rooms and the rest of the hotel was very very dated.

Location was average, around a 10min walk into the centre of Sofia although taxi's are cheap enough. If you're on a lads trip on a budget, this place does the job, if you're with your other half then I'd stay somewhere more upmarket.

The Hotel is located at convenient place, close to Exhibition Center and main
Streets of Sofia where many boutiques sell fashion cloth. Although the Staff seems to be proud to work in this Hotel, the quality of the service and the equipment in the Room and the toilet is far below the normal expectation. The lobby is quite noisy with a lot of strangers.
When I ask (having plenty of time to plane departure for my country) for Bus or tram
connection, nobody could give me any information. More oft the staff, don't know foreign
languages. The area near the Hotel, needs urgent repair and the replacement of many
stone tiles, in the parking area and the Street in front of the Hotel entrance.

Room Tip: Rooms facing Mountains are the best choice
