“Really good value and lovely hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2013

The hotel is in a slightly run down area but has lots of local shops, 10 minutes walk to centre and near metro (Lavov Most)and bus and train station. Also on tram route 4.

Very clean and modern. Stayed there twice and would again.

I'll never understand how Europeans can shower without an enclosure, getting everything in the bathroom wet. Do they not go back into the bathroom to dry their hair or put on makeup? Anyway, after 2 hotels in a row without a shower enclosure, I was so happy to have a real tub with a real shower and a DRY bathroom floor! Another plus is that the service was excellent. We ate in the restaurant one night and the food was very good; also was a nice selection at breakfast. However, the hotel is not close to anything you would want to be close to -- I don't mind walking, but there are not always sidewalks and the drivers do not yield to pedestrians! The air conditioning was broken the whole time we were there. The main disappointment is that the electricity only works when you put your room key in the slot to turn it on (when you are in the room). Therefore, the fridge never gets cold. We like to have cold drinks in the room, especially since there was no air conditioning!

Just returned from a 2 week stay in Sofia with a group of 30. during that time the temps were in the upper 90 Fahrenheit 35 to 38 Celsius and their ac went out on Saturday night. So the staff went out and bought fans and gave each of us one for our rooms since it was going to take 2days to fix. They are very friendly and speak English well. The restaurant is excellent also and the continental breakfast is great, with a large selection of choices. The hotel is a bit of a walk from the main area of downtown but it is still readily accessible, and if you prefer the #4 tram stops a block away. I stayed on the 6th floor (actually 7th since they start with 0) and would recommend 607 because it is away from the tram noise if you do open your window. It is also close to both the Train and Bus stations and only 4 blocks from the metro.

My family of 4 stayed in one of the 7th floor apartments for 3 nights in June. We arranged for an airport pick up through the hotel, as we didn't want to deal with fumbling through figuring out public transportation. Dido, was awaiting us at the airport and took us to the hotel. Check in was smooth, and everyone spoke English.
Our room was very large and clean, with a great view. The air condition was a great plus, as it was hot out.
The breakfast was very nice with a great assortment of fresh fruits and pastries.
We did eat at the restaurant twice and it was delicious both times.
The Budapest Hotel is not in the center of town, but all the sights are a short 7-10 minute walk away. I highly recommend this hotel, we had a wonderful experience with it. Their staff is exceptional all around.

The hotel was great. Very modern - very convenient. We stayed on the top floor in an apartment which was clean, spacious, and all around superduper. The staff were very helpful and all spoke much better English than I expected to find so far east. Remember, Sofia is a long way from the West, and it's been a tough road back from communism. Sofia has a bright future, but be patient with the city's progress. Signs of modernization and development are everywhere. The Budapest Hotel is one of those signs.

Dido, one of the employees, was above and beyond. He seemed to be involved in every aspect of running the hotel, and a helpful, friendly smile never left his face.
I hope his boss reads this and realizes that they have a wonderful asset in Dido.

We stayed at hotel Budapest for 2 nights. Initially we caught a bus into the centre thinking we could walk there but gave up thinking we had walked the entire Budapeshta street and not seen anything. The oksupertrans taxi took us there in the end (really cheap) and it turned out that the street continued beyond a dual carriageway. The hotel staff we very helpful in lending us change to pay the cab driver as all we had were 20 lev notes drawn from the cash machine at the airport.

Being 15 minutes walk away from the sights is probably not ideal for visitors who are probably doing an afternoon whistlestop tour before moving on. However, the bonus in this location is that it is not far from the bus terminal where we caught a bus to go to Veliko Tărnovo (5-10 mins walk).

The rooms are modern, almost felt designed for the business traveller. The taps and the showers In the bathroom were very sensitive to switching from hot to cold and the pressure was more than adequate. The breakfast buffet was a decent spread, I cannot comment on the restaurant as we decided to venture down the road to Hadjidraganovite kashti.

Our room was on the 5th floor facing the road so we could hear the trams pass by but this didn't stop us from having a good nights sleep.

Room Tip: The hotel receptionist asked us if we wanted to have a king size bed and changed our rooms. Must be...

It's a beautiful property, nicely decoreted, with large rooms, comfortable beds, although the single ones are rather small and very spacious bathroom, obviously recently renovated! The breakfast was adequate, nothing exceptional but acceptable for a 3 star hotel. The staff always friendly and with a smile, always of a help and they spoke good english too. The first night my room was at the 1st floor by the street and the tram kept me up all night as it was too noisy and the bed was actually shaking! The next day they were happy to change my room, so if you're a light sleeper make sure you specify away from the street! The location was also very good, about 7 mins walk from the train & bus station and almost 5 mins from the city center. There is a tram stop a minute away and a couple of mini markets that stay open till late at night.
The price was really good too, rather expensive though for bulgarian standards. I would go back to this hotel if I visit Sofia again!
