“Right Price, Right Location”

Hotel Hecco which is not Hotel Hecco Deluxe (Hotel Hecco Deluxe is several miles away) is walking distance from Bascarsija which is a plus because there are many good restaurants and gift shops there. Hotel does not take AMEX but they do take Master Card. Hotel Hecco is up on a hill so walking down to Bascarsija is easy but going back takes a little effort. The roads are small so you need to watch out for fast moving cars. Hotel does have wireless internet and it is free which is a plus. Breakfast is basic but good. For my stay, the breakfast was included in the room price. Beds are small and you can hear neighborhood dogs barking at night but can not complain for the price and location. Bathroom is clean but you may want to bring your own soap and shampoo. The hotel provides a liquid soap/shampoo in a dispenser but I could not tell if it was for my hair or body. I used it for both and had no issues but if you think you will get a travel size bar of soap and shampoo, you won't. People at the front desk can speak English which helps. Overall it was a good for a 3 night / 4 day stay in Sarajevo.

It's a hike up the hill, but not a terrible one, although I can imagine on a hot day that it wouldn't be much fun. It's only about 10 minutes down to the heart of the old city, but you get some great views of the hillsides on the walk down. A little pricier than other options in Sarajevo, but I decided to splurge for the night. I would recommend the hotel, because it's an actual hotel. Beware though, pack light because there's no elevator!

If you want good quality accomodation at a very keen price its hard to beat this. Its a bit of a trek up and down the hill - not all that far but the pavements in Sarajevo are used as car parks, most of the journey is in the road and it can be tricky in the dark or if its icy.

The hotel itself is fine; the staff could be a bit more attentive (for example in spotting when things run out on the breakfast buffet while they are chatting and smoking in the kitchen) but for the price.... Wireless internet works pretty well, although Skype calls tend to be poor quality.

This hotel is decent but I won't stay there again - there are much better options in Sarajevo including their own Hotel Hecco Deluxe (which is much, much nicer than this - their older hotel). Positive aspects: modern, bright, airy design; very helpful staff; parking garage; good cable tv package; great hot water and water pressure. Negatives are as follows. First, the parking garage is far smaller than it appears on the website. There is room for maybe 8 cars if they are packed in -- blocking one another (so if one needs to get out, several may have to be moved first). The street in front is very steep - I saw a lady trying to park there and her car was actually sliding down the hill in the rain as she lost control. There is no elevator. The hotel needs to be repainted and renovated - there are scuffs and marks everywhere. There was a huge stain on the carpet in my room and the comforter was stained. My room had a window opening into a common area with a couch and tables where people congregated at night (university dorm type atmosphere). The window had a blind but the room did not feel private, and it was loud. The high school next door is loud. The room was superficially clean but could really use a thorough cleaning. The toilet was very loud. The room smelled like tobacco. The breakfast room is very pleasant and nice but the breakfast itself was pretty basic - bread, meats, cheeses (mostly in packets), eggs; very watery juice. Finally, the hotel is a bit of a hike up a hill from the old town - I timed it at 6 minute walk down and ten minute walk up at a brisk pace - on a busy street, where the sidewalks are mostly used for parking, so you have to walk in the street for large parts of it. If you don't have a car, stay at Hecco Deluxe. It is a world apart.

  • Liked — The hotel has a cool design and at least some parking in a nice garage.
  • Disliked — Room was not very private, quiet or comfortable. Needs a cleaning and renovation.

I was orginally supposed stay at the Hotel Hecco not far from Bascarsija (the old town), but due to over crowding I was placed in the Hotel Hecco Deluxe just a five to ten minute walk from the old town for the same price as the Hecco. The rooms are of a comfortable size and the views of the city from 10 floors up are quite spectacular. The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating with panoramic views of Sarajevo. When the weather is nice this is a good place to be for a coffee, a meal or simply to just chill out and use the wireless internet which is available to all guests. However, the highlight of my stay here at the Deluxe was the friendly and more than helpful staff who all went out of their way to make my stay here in Sarajevo memorable. As a single traveler it can get lonely sometimes so it was real nice to stay in a place where I felt like I was home.

We arrived at the Hecco after a long drive from Belgrade, Serbia. I had previously contacted the hotel to ask for an apartment room. When making the booking, I had asked whether the apartment had enough space for a family of four, and was assured that it had. However, when we arrived, we were told that the room was not suitable for a family - it only slept two. We were offered either a cot (too small for either of our kids) or a triple room with all the beds pushed together! When we declined, there was no apology, nor an attempt to help us find alternative accommodation. Useless!

I highly recomend Hecco. Stay was pleasant and comfortable. I mostly commend the staff, always helpfull and forthcoming. Conference room was more then sufficient for our group of 20. Meals and drinks were always available as the staff is well connected with the business partners in the city. There is always someone available at the front, day or night.
I will stay at Hecco again as my experience has been wonderful.
