This is a new attraction for Sarajevo that offers an excellent way to see the city and learn about some of its history. The one hour, double decker bus tour, with an open top deck, is offered three times per day, at noon, 2pm and 5pm, at least in the Spring/Summer months. The tours begin in front of the Catholic Cathedral in the center of town and not only tours the city Centar including Bascarsija (the old Turkish merchant area), the Austro-Hungarian section, the corner where the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand started WWI,and the Olympic stadium, but also travels outside the city into the beautiful hills surrounding Sarajevo. The tour, guided by a live, not taped, tour guide, is usually offered in Bosnian and English but you may want to ask if they will be offering English before you pay for your ticket. The first day we had planned to go, the noon tour was booked already so we decided to wait until the 2:00 pm tour. Not a problem because the Cathedral is surrounded by bustling cafes and stores where one can shop or sit and watch the crowd while enjoying an espresso or other drink. The 2:00 tour did not offer an English speaking tour guide but we decided to take the tour anyway (my husband is Bosnian and translated for my parents) and, since we loved the tour so much, we went back with my father-in-law the next day and it was offered in English that day. As lifelong Sarajevans, both my husband and father-in-law really enjoyed the tour and learned some new things about the city. All this for only $5km ($3.50USD) adults, 3km children! I suggested they charge more because it's really worth it! You can buy tickets on the bus. This is not a "hop on, hop off" tour.
